MagicJack works well for me, I use it on a sattellight connection in the BoLA area. Other people don't have as good service as I do so luck plays into it I guess. Get both MagicJack and Skype, one or the other should work for you. Are you on a sattellight service or something else?

We've used both skype and magic jack in Los Barriles on a 2 Mbps telmex DSL. Both work fine if you're not trying to download something on the computer at the same time. There are occasional dropped calls.

Have one in La Paz using Banda Ancha not perfect but works for me.

Used magic jack and iChat with video and sound .. Telnor.. cheapest plan ... and we watched Netflix also using same connection, with an IP blocker

However, we did on occasion have rather slow connection speed, at time.. .:lol:

we LOVE our magic jack and it works very well if you shut down other programs running...I like that I can bring it with me and use it anywhere and just connect it to .....say....a hotel room phone...we prefer it to skype unless we want to video chat to the cutest grandson in the whole world....hahahaha

I have a Magic Jack and it works beautifully with our Telmex land line, no dropped calls, no interference. You just have to remember to keep the computer turned on.

It puts the Skype to shame. Also, you just dial at will from a telephone, no headset, no charges per minute.

I paid $29.99 for the Magic Jack for one year, and will certainly renew it when my year comes up.

Their latest offering I see, allows one to not have to plug into a computer too ... which has some advantages at times...

Not again, another bad buy...:lol::lol:

You are correct ... Sir .. one would have to have a "active" pair for all to work ... not sure what the plug-in's real advantage is, but then I'm always on my laptop, with headphones ... I use a pair of Sennheiser 580's the wife has 600's ... and have gotten a wireless headset too, also from Sennheiser ... have always liked their units... not saying that others aren't better ... or have a "sound" which others may like ...

I like magic jack much more than skype, so much in fact that I canceled my skype. Didn't work worth a damn for me over hughesnet. We just MJ for calls to baja too. I believe we bought credit to make international calls, which was an additional charge to the 19.95 yearly.
