The jail house doors in the photo aren't original to the building. They were altered about 17 years ago when the tailings were being worked. The gold
was stored in the jail, thus the beefed up doors.

The mine wasn't active. The old tailings were being re-worked there at the location of the jail area. There were giant pools of cyanide, trouble with
cows, the old office building was still there and being used. We were invited out to a bbq one night, the toughest ribs ever, but the ambiance was
great.

paulina, what was the jail used for prior? same thing just less security?

One story goes that any miner that visited the town saloon would have to walk past the jail to get to his home... and the local law would grab him on
the spot if he was drunk, and put him in the jail.
