A message from Tijuana to the world:
Tijuana is a unique city, full of youthful energy and vitality. Its location on the U.S.-Mexico border makes it a city that is current in terms of
technology, and its daily interaction with sister cities, San Diego and Los Angeles, California, contributes to a vibrant, bilingual and bicultural
society.
Nevertheless, over the last several years, Tijuana’s image has been tarnished by media reports focused on the types of crime and security issues that,
indeed, often affect larger cities throughout the world. As a result of this negative focus, Tijuana’s many strong suits have frequently gone
unrecognized, and regretfully, in many cases, even by its own citizens.
In response, a group of business leaders, particularly from the industry sector, organized a great event to show the nation and the whole world the
strengths that put Tijuana on the top of internationally known areas for science, art, education, and technology. The results were amazing!
This event, Tijuana Innovadora 2010, the Intelligent Frontier, was an initiative that highlighted many of the qualities, activities and skills that
make Tijuana a vital, unique and an innovative city.
More than one hundred participating companies from the industrial sector exhibited the cutting-edge technology used in the manufacture of their
products, which are exported throughout the world from Tijuana. This aspect of the event, alone, helped revitalize the attraction of new investments
in our region.
We were also hosts to a number of truly influential international figures, including former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and three other Nobel Prize
winners. Other participants included renowned journalists and media personalities such as Larry King; philanthropists such as Carlos Slim; and
innovators like Biz Stone and Jimmy Wales, the respective founders of Twitter and Wikipedia. They all became ambassadors for our great city.
A team of experts in communication designed a high-impact media strategy focused on the difficult task of returning, to the inhabitants of this border
city, the self-esteem and pride associated with being from Tijuana,. The results were extraordinary, as the local, national and foreign media
published roughly 5 000 news stories touting the little-known reality of Tijuana, and generating significant goodwill for the city.
What began as an event to offer the world an accurate, dignified representation of Tijuana, has developed into a movement that has swept the nation,
as other cities, throughout the country, have taken inspiration in this successful model to promote and dignify their own communities.
Our second event, Tijuana Innovadora 2012, will be held from October 11th to the 21st, 2012 at the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) in Tijuana, Baja
California, Mexico. In 2010, we sought and earned respect. In 2012 our goal is greatness, because to dignify Tijuana, is to dignify Mexico.

I worked for many years at HUGHES AIRCRAFT. We built "black boxes" for air defense systems. Had to have clearances thru FBI and Dept. of Defense for
access. Some where in the 80's the company started shifting production to Tijuana. First for "unclassified" and finally to "secret" hardware.
This was our latest best "stuff". Best in the world. We faced jail time for leaving this same hardware unlocked and they just took in down there for
non U.S. citizens to build. It was cheaper.
