The Reserve will begin doing the whale counts at Ojo de Liebre and San Ignacio next week. Both places have whales and are up and operating.

Yesterday, we had a magnificent trip out on the lagoon with the ejido lancheros. There are more whales in then I have ever seen before so early in the
year so it looks like it will be a big year there. We must have seen well over a hundred just in the far end of the lagoon, the majority having their
newborn calves already. We saw one that was just born that morning or maybe the day before....so teeny and still had the folds and wrinkles from being
curled up in the womb.

We saw lots of spyhops, breaches, tails, nursing and had whales right under and alongside the panga which was thrilling for my brother and sister in
law as it was their first trip ever to the lagoon. It was flat calm and hot...and at one point at slack high tide, all the whales were taking a siesta
which made us kinda sleepy too!
After our whale adventure, we had awesome shrimp tacos on the deck of the interpretive centre and watched whales breaching in front of us.

Then we went on a birdwatching trip out to el Faro which was spectacular. The caretaker there invited us for fresh chocolata clams which went well
with the cold tecates.

We finished off a perfect day with Mano de Leon (lions paw scallops) at Don Gus accompanied by a wonderful musician crooning love songs to the ladies.

We spent the night at Hotel Olivia in Vizcaino so we could board the bus at dawn for Loreto....well....off to the hot tub....ta ta amigos!
