Great picture - good memories.....
Flew out of Gilette, WY some years ago to the Devil's Tower up north, had a T-33 as my right wing man - what a different close encounter that was.
Thanks for the reminder, Pompano!

I know what you mean, Igor, monoliths do seem to dominate mankind's memorials, don't they? ...or... Are they man's 'aspirations.' ?
Plain, and intricately carved, monoliths have figured very significantly throughout all of man's history on earth. Perhaps they are more important to
us then we realize?
Tragen's Column, Rome, Italy .. a record height of 34 meters.
The one shown above was erected by the Romans. It's quite impressive... and sobering. While photographing it, Co-pilot was especially
appreciative of the architectural forms I was showing her... saying breathlessly through the viewfinder, "Bravo..oh... brrravo.."
Related in the same theme, although somewhat gender-different, is Stonehenge, a mystifying circle of monoliths in England... built in
antiquity and supposedly by Druids.
Co-pilot and I had the great pleasure to visit the American counterpart of Stonehenge.... which overlooks the Columbia Gorge..another
inspiring creation.
Yes, built by ancient Druids...for what reason, we are not sure.....BUT....
...one recent theory about the mystery of the Stonehedge monoliths states that the whole edifice is a sexually-related symbol pertaining to
women...which seems to be as good an explanation as anything, it seems...
..As when we visited Stonehenge America...Co-pilot was..uh.. strangly affected upon entering the inner sanctum.
Brava!..hoo boy....brava!
Historical Road Trips are... finest kind.

Pomp, Traiano in Italian, Trajan in English. FYI.
Have you been there?
I grew up there, and it's still an amazing place to me. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trajan%27s_Forum
