What kind of a permit do you need to sell fish?
A couple of my Mexican friends cast their 100 yard long nets off the beach in Rosarito in the mornings and catch a decent amount of small fish. They
tried to sell their surplus to neighbors, but the police detained them and made them pay a 200 peso mordida for not having a permit to sell them. Do
all the local net fisherman run into this problem? What's the permit?

haven't a clue on the local customs, whether it was mordida or not, but most if not all people selling anything need to pay taxes to be 'legal'
whether or not it's enforced.
the regimen de pequenos contribuyentes repecos program should cover them...apply at Hacienda, state or federal office. government would rather
collect something than nothing. this small fish in the business world then pay taxes bimonthly. lowest category is 30 pesos/month. you can earn up
to 2 million pesos/yr...that's a lot of fish!... without needing accounting. but receipts for sales may be required
reality\'s never been of much use out here...

yeah, they weren't happy with the shakedown. just want to point them in the right direction to get the permit. (this is my clam supplier too, so I
don't wanna lose it)

I don't know what they need on the business end but I would think a commercial license on the fishing part.

Fishing with nets and selling their surplus sounds commercial to me but what do I know. When I've watched them using 100 yard long nets one of the
guys was getting out in the water and circled the net back to shore then both pulled it in. Not your typical "fishing from shore".

I'm pretty sure a permit for commercial fishing, perhaps even more specifically a permit for netting food fish, is required. Not that the lack of
permit stops anybody from netting.

It takes a commercial fishing license and it does not matter if you use a net, handline, or dynamite.

Most Nationals fishing for profit that I have met belong to a co-op. That could possibly be their license.

Yes, the paperwork for a coopertiva is much easier to do than the paperwork for a private commercial fisherman.
