ditto all the above comments...one question...did you take the photo on a B&W setting or make it B&W afterwards? I find that if I take a photo
in colour and change it later, it lacks contrast or something.

Thanks.
I took it in color, but I know what you mean about the problems with converting it to b&w ----don't know the program you use, but with my
Photoshop Elements, I just did not like the results when I converted from color to B & W. I read many tutorials on the internet and tried
converting the pictures many different ways.
Thus, on a trial basis, I am using a new Topaz plug in program for Photoshop Elements ---Topaz B & W http://www.topazlabs.com/bweffects/
I really like what it can do. I have just started learning about it and will probably buy it.

Diana and Shari,
I find the best way to process photos is using 2 tools know as levels and curves, I found an online tutorial using a B&W astrophoto as an
example. Just scroll down to the bottom and play Photoshop Levels and Curves easy 1,2,3
A lot of the principles he talks about apply to any photo, the only thing is in a astrophoto the amount of processing is extreme to drag out faint
detail so you'd want to keep the adjustments small in a normal photo. I think the same tools also exist in other software so you don't need Photoshop
CS.
http://myastroimages.com/Astro_Imaging_Tutorials/index.php
The S curves adjustment he talks about at the end is probably all you'd need to do just to tweak the contrast without washing out the highlights or
losing detail in the shadows.
Once you get the hang of the software its an easy thing to do.
