Don't let the FACTS get in the way of a good story.
A little off subject, remember reading of an
incident off a cruise ship in the Carribean that was
on the east coast of Coast Rica at a town called
Puerta Limon, some senior citizen types were in
town off the ship. A gunman attempted a robbery of
the group, 1 of the group was in a store and came
out behind the robber, at which time he put a choke
hold on the gunman, the gunman died right there.
The local Police were called, after hearing the story,
they rendered a verdict on the spot. Justified use
of force, Gringo was allowed to continue the cruise,
no charges filed, frontier justice at it's best

I'll be in Puerto Vallarta in a month. Can't wait. Hopefully I don't get robbed or my head removed from my body.

Where the robbery occurred is amazingly close to town.
When I first read about it, I immediately thought about the area above Mismaloya; a place where the Terminator movies were filmed. It's a dirt road
for several miles leading to a lush area. I'm familiar because we have stayed several times at Casa Iguana which is located at the entrance to the
road which is paved for perhaps 1/4 mile.
But, no. Where this took place was much closer to town proper.
That said, my best guess is that it was random and isolated. Personally, I wouldn't have a second thought about spending time in the PV area.

A news story about this said that the only person not robbed was the tour guide.....coincidence?......
This was a set up, why were they directed to a small trail late in the afternoon where a robber just happened to be?......dt

wrong procedure
“This is an extremely rare incident,” the tourism board said in a statement
Extremely rare because victims are generally beheaded and then robbed.

Sounds a little like when we lived in Guatamala. A fellow gringo teacher and the parent of one of our students were robbed while hiking the volcano
near Antiqua. Our friend was prepared and had a limited amount of cash and nothing else.
What we all smiled about later was that the local police wanted a detailed inventory of what was taken---they did not want to be short changed!
I wonder if the cruise ship guide is still employed.

True enough. But, the folks who are most upset about this incident are the PV tourist organizations.
Carnival can just skip yet another port, if they feel it has negatively impacted their sales.
But the hotels and resaturants and other tourist providers in and around PV don't have a similar option.
