Mex 1 Conditions Ensenada to Mulege
I'm thinking of taking a last-minute trip down this weekend and was wondering about a few of the trouble spots I encountered last fall: (1) south of
Maneadero & north of Santo Tomas; (2) south of Catavina; and (3) north of Jesus Maria. Anyone done the drive lately who can update us on those
areas (and any other problems)? Much appreciated!

Two weeks ago the road work on the stretch between Maneadero and Santo Tomas was done except for some shoulder work and painting on the southern end.
Pretty impressive notch they carved through the hill above Ejido Ajusco to avoid the old switchback route down to the valley. But I'm not sure I'd
want to be driving it in the rain or during an earthquake -- some of those rocks have a long way to fall.

Smooth sailing as of last night.

Safely navigated through last night's earthquake I might add....

Great news about Maneadero-Santo Tomas; that was the worst part in my opinion. Hopefully they had made some headway on the stretch north of Jesus
Maria...

Thanks Blanca; currently at Jardines in SQ for the night so now I can rest easy knowing that the trip tomorrow will be without any problems. Pretty
impressive what they have down south of Maneadero; I couldn't believe it was the same road!

Wow; I haven't seen the road this good in many years (if ever!). They have done a great job keeping things in fantastic shape. Anyone worried about
coming down should not think twice. Arrived in Mulege in record time.

There were multiple stretches of Hwy 1 between El Marmol and the LA Bay junction where the road surface was in so-so condition. Shallow potholes.
Seemed like mostly on the northbound side.
Just something I thought I'd note.
There was a work crew out filling these near Rancho Chapala on Thursday. Hard to say how long that'll be good for though.
