UCSD to hold forum on Mexican economy

"UC San Diego has scheduled a daylong symposium on Mexico's economic development for May 3.

Top Mexican business leaders will be among the speakers at the event titled "Mexico Moving Forward."

Tickets for the symposium, which will run from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies at the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS,) are $95. A limited number of free tickets are available for UC San Diego students and faculty.

" 'Mexico Moving Forward' clearly underscores UC San Diego's expertise in U.S.-Mexico relations," said Peter Cowhey, dean of the School of International Relations and Pacific Studies. "The university's proximity to the border and the internationally renowned faculty at IR/PS, perfectly positions us ... "

Speakers will include Joel Suárez Aldana, CEO of GRUMA, a leader in corn flour and tortilla production; Victor Legorreta, partner in an international architecture firm; Francesco Piazzesi, founder and CEO of a firm that does sustainable community development and winner of the entrepreneur of the year award from the Latin America World Economic Forum; Margarita Barney Almeida, founder and director of GRUPEDSAC, a nongovernmental organization that has been honored for its work promoting education and the development of sustainable communities; Carlos Danel, founder and CEO of Banco Compartamos, Latin America's largest for-profit microfinance bank; Gabriela Enrigue González, founder of Prospera, a company helps female-led microenterprises; Gordon Hanson, director of the Center on Emerging and Pacific Economies at UC San Diego; Gabriel Lagos, general director of Fundación GEO, a company that develops sustainable communities; Santiago Levy Algazi, a vice president at the Inter-American Development Bank; Mónica Tapia, founder of Alternativas y Capacidades, an organization that aims to improve ties between civil society organizations and their private donors."

I attended one of these s few years ago, in Anaheim.Very informative, amde some good friends and business contacts...
