"LAS VEGAS - Baja California Secretary of Tourism Juan Tintos and former Mayor of Rosarito Beach Hugo Torres will deliver a presentation on Baja
California tourism at the American Marketing Association luncheon in Las Vegas on May 3. The event provides an opportunity to discuss cross-border
tourism and economic possibilities between Nevada and Baja California.
These tourism leaders will speak about the daunting international marketing challenge they face in promoting tourism to Baja California, especially in
light of the negative media publicity and the U.S. State Department travel warning about Mexico. Secretary Tintos states, "Many Americans do not
realize that Baja California is a wonderful vacation destination, with a mild Mediterranean climate, spectacular sandy beaches, world-class wines,
friendly people, and stunning resorts." Baja California annually hosts over 300 events that attract thousands of visitors from around the world. As
Secretary Tintos notes, "Baja California is just down the road from Nevada, which makes it a perfect weekend getaway."
An economic fact that surprises many Americans is that Baja California and Mexico are vital to the U.S. economy (Mexico is the #2 country for U.S.
exports and the #2 country for oil imports to the U.S.). Baja California is also an important destination for wine and food aficionados. The area has
gained international acclaim recently thanks to televised tours from Chefs Rick Bayless and Anthony Bourdain. Filmmakers also like Baja California.
Most recently, the movie "Little Boy" (starring Emily Watson and Tom Wilkinson) was filmed there. Another yet-to-be-released movie ("All Is Lost"),
starring Oscar-winner Robert Redford, was also recently filmed in Baja California-a prime location for extended water shoots."
The Baja California presentation will be held at the Cili Restaurant at the Bali Hai Golf Club in Las Vegas on May 3, 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM. Reservations
can be made through the AMA Las Vegas website: http://www.amalasvegas.com/events-calendar/may-luncheon/
Juan Tintos is the Baja California Secretary of Tourism, the Founder of the Mexican Tourism Board, and the President of the Tijuana Hotel and Motel
Association. Hugo Torres is the President of the Baja Image Committee, the owner of the Rosarito Beach Hotel, and the former Mayor of Rosarito Beach
in Baja California. While in Las Vegas, these prominent Baja California visionaries will meet with Las Vegas business and community leaders to explore
mutually beneficial tourism, business, and cultural exchanges between Baja California and Nevada.
