Fishing the East Cape
Planning on a fishing trip to the East Cape the first week of June and have narrowed the choices of where to stay to Martin Verdugos and Rancho
Leonero. Would appreciate any recent info on the two. Best boats, captains, etc. ?

Verdugo's is in town, walking distance to everything you might need, Leonero is somewhat isolated. Both places can get you on the fish.

I like the seclusion of Rancho Leonero. Meals are included, if fishing they pack you a lunch. Miles of sandy beach, great bar and outdoor patio for
dining. Lets Talk Hookup tournament starts June 9, so will be busy then. 11% tax and 11.8% service charge added, so budget for this.
If staying in town, eat at the Smokehouse, great soup, fish c-cktails and burgers. AND, the coldest beer in Baja.
You might also consider staying at Hotel Los Pescadores near town. Off the water but new construction, new furnishings, a great bar and pool. and
Patti the owner is fantastic. Inexpensive and nice. $72 per night double includes tax. Meals not included. They have 2 pangas and will arrange
anything you need.

Being able to walk to most of your destinations is handy. I thinking of staying there at Verdugo's when I come down with my trailer. Photos looked
ok..

Have you considered Hotel Punta Pescadero? Isolated, but one of our alltime Baja favorites:

Ken mentions a great hotel - Punta Pescadero Hotel. 5 star quality and service. Felipe and Angelica along with all the others provide outstanding
service, like having your own resort home. Remote and romantic!
Airport currently does not have an operating permit, FYI.

Hmm...maybe a diiferent airstrip is closed = the near Punta Colorada?.
Flew out of PP airstrip and landed there in Feb. 2012.
When the way comes to an end, then change. Having changed, you pass through.

Their website shows the PPC strip open, but that might not mean anything.

The strip is officially closed but can be used by residents of Punta Pescadero and guests of the hotel. If you want to fly in there you should call
the hotel first.....dt

Hi Ken,
My understanding is that the permit renewal was not submitted in a timely manner. It has been closed for a while, not sure what is taking so long.
Currently the incredibly nice air strip is closed. There are planes flying in and out, and I am told they are filing flight plans for other airports,
then land at this closed strip. The authorities have every right to confiscate your airplane for filing a false flight plan when this is done.
No one, not the residents, not the hotel guests are allowed to use the strip legally. Homeowners are unhappy and hotel is of course impacted.
