Hotel La Mision

We went there for dinner Friday night mainly to see Miguel de Hoyos and Paco Diaz perform. We had been warned that their food wasn't very good but decided to eat there anyway. My wife ordered the scallops. This is the first time we have seen "fake" scallops on a restaurant. They are punched from the fin of a fish or shark. They were very tough, rubbery and had no scallop flavor. I ordered the Scaloppine Marsala. Granted the menu didn't say veal, but I didn't expect thin, over cooked, dry slices of beef with no Marsala at all. We talked with the owner and she said that she will talk with the chef. Our friends told us that they had complained to her months ago but nothing has changed. I guess we will eat somewhere else before going there next time.

PS. Miguel and Paco were great as usual!!

Sting ray or manta ray is the 'scallop' often used. A cookie cutter makes them round. Guillermo's at L.A. Bay served 'sacllops' like that in 2003... at least that's what Mike H. thought when we all ate there.
