Ninth Annual Street Opera Festival Saturday includes selections from Bizet's Carmen. The 2008 festival included a performance by a Tijuana children's chorus. - Opera de Tijuana

TIJUANA – “A weekly look at notable upcoming events in the cross-border region.

“Tuesday: Lecture on the impact of World War II on Tijuana by historian José Beltrán Cortéz. At Tijuana's History Museum, inside Tijuana's old City Hall on Second Avenue near the corner of Constitución Avenue. At 6 p.m. Free.

Thursday-Saturday: The Companía de Danza de Baja California presents Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake ballet. The setting is El Lago de los Cisnes (Lake of Swans) of Tijuana's Parque de la Amistad. 8 p.m. Tickets are $11 if pre-purchased, $15 on day of performance.

Friday: Performance by Paté de Fuá, a musical group led by two Argentinian musicians living in Mexico known for their blend of jazz, tango and other styles. At 8 p.m. at the Tijuana Cultural Center (Cecut). Tickets are free (limit of two per person) and available at the box office Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Saturday: Food from more than 15 restaurants, music, and fireworks will be featured at the Rosarito Beach Hotel in the third annual Fourth of July Fundraiser for the Flying Samaritans clinic in Rosarito Beach. Starts at 3 p.m. Tickets are from $3 to $12, free for children under two.

Saturday: Tijuana's Ninth Annual Street Opera Festival takes place from noon to midnight in Colonia Libertad on Fifth Street near the corner of Aquiles Serdán. Among the highlights: Menotti's short opera "La Medium" (6:15 p.m.); Orff's "Carmina Burana" (8:15 p.m.); Selections from "Les Miserables" (9 p.m); Stravinky's "Les Noces" performed by dance ensemble Lux Boreal (10:30 p.m.) Grand finale starts at 11 p.m., featuring mezzo soprano Encarnación Vázquez and tenor Carlos Galván performing selections that include songs Bizet's "Carmen", Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte", Puccini's "Nessum Dorma"
