What You Don't See Reported Locally
Below is a cut & paste "auto translated" article from my hometown Newspaper La Voz de Michoacan. I didn't feel like translating the article or
correcting even the laughable errors. But it may be of interest to note that things are always happening that do not make the press. The military
retenes are not just there for decoration, and to disrupt travel comfort. This is from Today's edition...
Notimex / La Voz de Michoacán
The Ministry of National Defense (SEDENA) announced the arrest of 15 people at different events and seizure of 225 packages of marijuana weighing a
total of 672.58 kilograms and weapons and cash.
During the presentation of the drug commander of the Second Military Zone, Briseno Gilberto Landeros, reported on the seizure in the first action of
200 packages with a total weight of 502 kilograms of grass.
He explained that military personnel attended the support application of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) to achieve the assurance of the drug on
the federal road Rosarito-Ensenada.
He said that at the height of the Coral Sea splitting the drug was in a small boat with mast, radar and outboard.
Briseno Landeros said a second action after ground surveys, three people were arrested and three others as presented, to whom said 150 packages of
cocaine weighing a total of 169,084 kilograms.
They were also seized a plastic bag with 56 grams of "crystal", four bundles of marijuana weighing 442 grams, two rifles, a short, three magazines,
307 cartridges, a boat with outboard and five vehicles .
He said that detainees were secured and made available to the federal prosecutor assigned to the Office of Special Investigations into Organized Crime
in Mexico City.
In another operation two people were arrested, two vehicles, 25 packages of marijuana weighing 170.58 kilograms, a rifle, 12 cartridges, eight grams
of cocaine, two grams of "crystal" and 230 U.S. dollars.
Moreover, in response to a complaint about drug sales in the delegation Center this border, four people were arrested in possession of two bundles of
marijuana, a bottle of 100 pills of pseudoephedrine and a skin of "crystal".
Also at the International Airport Abelardo L. Rodriguez, in making various revisions in the baggage claim area, the military said in two events three
men with three thousand 200 pesos and 40 thousand 575 U.S. dollars.

169,082 kilos is about 370,000 pounds...or is my math wrong? Isn't that a lot? Maybe it was for Charlie Sheen.

Thank you... I was looking for a town name, not knowing the military zone areas of Mexico. That is a lot of territory for one commander!
