Shopping Trip To Sta Rosalia and Mulegé
To save 25% on several hundred dollars worth of medicines, Farmacias Similares says I have to buy them between 11-1 and 5-7 on a Thursday.
How much of a delay should I expect at the roadwork on La Cuesta del Infiernillo? Can it last a long time, more than an hour?
I would like to get a dozen fresh bolillos at El Boleo. Many years ago they used to run out around 9AM. Is this still true?
And get several kilos of mango "jam" from the lady.
Shop for some items in the Segundas
And pick up some items that are not available locally, I sure miss the ruby flesh grapefruit from the orchard way out past the ice plant.

When we came by there two days ago, there was no delay, only a little slowing. However, do not post me or let me know if you spend the whole day
there waiting for the road to open.  
Actually there is a lot of work going on from the bottom of the hill before the propane plant to the top of the hill.

You may still get the grapefruit at the marcket on the right side of the ice house road? I don't think they run out of Bolios now. Get drugs at the
market (can't remember the name) just down from the bakery. Government store? Produce definitely better in Viscaino. Don't know about the jam.

Came through headed south to Mulege on Thursday - lots of work but not much of a delay. One way traffic with flagmen but once your side is waved
through moves pretty good. Can't help with the rest. Jim

Similares in Loreto has 20% discount on Mondays between 11am and 1pm.

Shari, that little car of mine has a super air conditioner gracia a dios. Yeah I figured produce would not be so good but the kind lady with the badly
crossed-eyed out in the orchard remembers me from before the earth cooled (thirty years?). So I get a load of gossip as well as ruby red grapefruit.
The stuff I got locally the other day was excellent but yellow flesh, picky-picky. But then she may not have anything.
Part of the list is a trunk load of dry mesquite barbecue wood. Then Inshallah over to San Bruno and ask around for Dorado and maybe cochi. Not a lot
just a few kilos. There are few things better than mesquite grilled dorado followed by sips of bitter cold cerveza.
The farmacia mentioned in RUSS reply is inside the ISSSTE tienda. Similares is selling a made-in-germany cardiac medication (Lopressor) for a price
that is tough to beat. But the ISSSTE tienda is on my list. So is Saul's Tienda for some or I should say whatever spices, condiments and goodies that
are available.
I can also get birotes at El Boleo as well as bolillos.
Heat? Yeah, it's gonna be hot all right. But Mulegé has Segundas, and since I forgot my measuring cup set over at the blue house, I might as well see
if I can get a big one, a whisk, and some other stuff.
Produce and fruit will come from Vizcaino. Fresh milk right from the Dairy.
Am I glad that little car gets close to 30 mpg!

The way this particular discount works is when a purchase reaches 100 pesos, 25% is deducted (a 25% discounted is given). When the second 100 pesos is
reached (200 peso purchase total) that 100 peso increment is similarly given a 25% discount.
Farmacias Similarles does have a "Buen Lunes" promoccion in which a 25% discount is given all day. But it does not occur on a Monday soon enough for
my medicine chest so I have to settle for the 100 peso Thursday bit.
Yes, I do come back a few times, so I end up with more than their single purchase maximum limit.

Mulege shopping options
David, you might wish to check with Diego's Pharmacy here in Mulege, too. They have a good stock of meds, excellent list prices and give a discount to
boot.
There are two pharmacies in Mulege. One is on the plaza. Diego's Pharm is just off the plaza 1/2 block across the street from El Candil restaurant and
a thrift store.
The other cool thrift store, my fav hands down, is on the one-way system heading out just past the Comex store. They've been closed this week, so are
probably up in TJ getting new swag for the shop!
There may be other gypsy thrift stores down on the river under the bridge-- never know, here one day and gone the same day sometimes.
La Colmena is the Macy's of Mulege. They have plenty of housewares.

Dennis, Wal-Mart and Costco both have online pricing. But not all drugs even generic ones are available under the generic subsidies programs of USA
pharmacies.
Most of the time, shopping in the USA just beats-the-tar out of Mexican generics as far as price goes. Anti-arthritis meds are an example. In the USA
I get generic hydroxycloroquine for one eleventh the price of Plaquenil® which is the only stuff available in Mexico.
Some people prefer flagship name brand drugs. For example Lopressor®. It's fairly inexpensive here, and is from Germany the company that invented it.
There are prices on the farmacias similares website. You need to latinize the generic name (example verapamilo instead of varapamil) to search for the
price but if you go to google, type in the generic name of the medication and and mexico right after it, it will bring up titles in website directory
that have the latinized spelling of the generic. Amplicillin-Ampicillina, Magnesium sulfate-sulfato de magnesio, etc, etc.
