Mulege- August fishing trip
We expected the Dorado bite to be off the hook during August but that isn't the case so far. We cannot find any paddies anywhere. We did hook up on
about 6 dorado yesterday, but nothing big. All were 7-16 lbs. We trolled about 80miles and did see some life with bait balls, lot's o flying fish and
even a pod of pilot whales.
The usual crappy morning view at the busy Mulege boat ramp.
Pod of whales... strange thing was there were about 50 whales and 30 or more were babies.
Trolling for Dorado at sunrise and fighting off the muggers and thieves.
Running from the drug dealers... oops, just trolling the Sea of Cortez
We caught this during the gunfights between the cartels and the federalies. Thank god I was able to get the gaff right thru one of the bullet holes.
OUCH... 27.61 liters per fish
We decide that we deserved a break... Pina Coladas at the Hotel Serinadad pool.
Shouldn\'t one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check or Sec.8 housing?
........... I had to pass one to earn it for them!

Great Pictures, sorry you had such a dangerous trip. Maybe next time you should leave the scary places like Mulege to brave people like me

I moved to CO and they made me buy a little rod to make it feel like a real fish

It only looks small since I'm 6'7" and 300 lbs..... I'm guessing that you "assumed" I was your size

After yesterday's lack of dorado my wife decided that we should be jiggin at the "super secret snapper spot" first thing and then troll. Well, she was
right (please dont tell her I said that). First fish was a 24 lb+ red snapper followed up by a pair of 18lb yellow tail. We stayed on that spot and
ended up losing more fish then we caught...It was great fun for the entire family. We started trolling at about 9am and trolled 20 miles or so without
a dorado bite, tried close to shore for roosters, nada! Time to hit Conception bay and do a little snorkling and test out my daughters underwater
cam.
First cast...not sure it's edible?
Fish on!! I hope it's not another rock...lol
Nice snapper!! this one will make 20 tacos!!
Then she reels in a couple yellow tails..
Then we head over to conception bay for a little snorkling.
My daughter trying out her waterproof camera.
I think Jake is done for today!!
It's a miracle!!! Another fun and safe day in Baja!!

It's a 23' Keywest CC......slightly underpowered..
It finally happened to us...we were warned about the bandidos but decided to take our chances. The day
started off with a nice sunrise but the water was a little rough and the current was moving, Staying n our spot was going to be difficult. Just as we
were reeling in our first fish we were attacked by four bandidos, three hung back but the leader was fearless. He charged the boat and ripped us off.
Man, how stupid are we for ignoring all the warnings from our friends and the US news on the dangers of Baja. I tried to report the incident with the
local policia but they just laughed at us. Please cut me some slack on my spelling, we are still shaken up over this ordeal..
MUGSHOT!!!!
Maybe I can get some help from the US Embassy?

It was great seeing you, Olivia and Nathan yesterday and as always great food and drink!!
After checking the tides we decided to launch late and yoyo up some fish at the super secret snapper spot. We arrived
at 10am just in time for the current to slow and what do we find? The bandidos "locally known as Tres P-nche Lobos" waiting on the unarmed gringo's
to reel in their breakfast. Somehow this gang knows the difference between a mexican panga and a gringo boat. After a couple of small pinto bass and
fending off the bandidos we started trolling towards conception bay. As we appoached the lighthouse the rod with the zuker purple feather started
rippin line and we finally got another dorado. By this time the wind was picking up so we headed south to Buena Ventura for lunch and drinks, Upon
arriving we were met by Mark and his son Nathan and prompty served an ice cold tecate.
Arriving at BuenaVentura.
You always get a frozen mug with your beer.
Sorry, The burger was so good I forgot to take a pic untill it was almost gone!!
Mark, Olivia and Nathan giving us a gracious cast off.
Stopped at a couple of small islands for more snorkeling..How does a cactus grow on a bird caca covered island?
Loks like we have bad weather for the next couple of days, so hopefully more fish pics on Friday..

A fun report, Mike. Thanks.
As for the lobos, a technique that works for me is to motor the boat over the dog when he grabs your fish. As he moves, move with him so your line is
straight down. That maneuver seems to bother them, so they drop the fish and leave. It usually works.

We launched at 6:15 today after being stuck in the house for the last 3 days of rain. Beautiful sunrise and almost a flat calm sea. We fished the SSSS
for red snapper, yellow tails and madrigals. We hooked into quite a few fish but most came unbuttoned before we could boat em. My wife did manage to
load the locker with a 30lb+ madrigal and a 10lb snapper. We yoyo'd till 9am then trolled south past the slide. We slayed the skip jacks with over 20
released and even had half a dozen Dorado's hit the purple and black feathers. Tomorrow will be our last day to fish before heading nob.
BTW.. "The P-nche lobo's" stopped by but did'nt stay long, I was prepared to try Bruno's trick if they attacked!!
Nathan joined us today to show off his "trophy" fishing skills!!
Anna's big madrigal (or could be a amberjack)..
