TIP for boat

Is that measured from the top or the bottom?

You could always add a small anchor pulley on the bow.

There's been a past thread on TIPs. Of course I can't find it!!!

The consensus at that time was that boats under 3.5 meters (14.7 ft) did not need an import permit.

Anybody have any experience bringing a small boat down to the mainland?

soulpatch.....Congratulations on your retirement.
I have no experience bringing a boat to the Mexican mainland, but more and more marine facilities on Baja are requiring a TIP for any boat using their facilities whether the TIP is legally required or not. If you decide to import your boat, it is very easy to do online, and the cost is around $50 US for the ten year permit. Here's a link to a thread on Bloodydecks with the Banjercito site for obtaining TIPs, as well as other information (and some misinformation).
