Non-Baja MRI related question
Admittedly, this is non-Baja.........but that's nothing new from me, eh? And since the OT section is a Gulag, here goes.
My wife had an MRI on a badly sprained ankle, yesterday. She actually sprained it FIVE WEEKS AGO and got an x-ray, which proved negative.
We were shopping in Hermosillo yesterday when she experienced her worst day of her recovery yet. Moderate pain and a tingling sensation from mid-calf
to the ankle. So, off to the hospital in HMO we went, as this is the best hospital in the State of Sonora. We're beginning to wonder if there is some
severe ligament damage.
After receiving the 40 minute MRI procedure, the orthopedist assigned to us by the hospital tells us he wont be able to interpret the MRI for
approximately 96 HOURS!!!!!! Monday at 930am. Say, what??????
Is this normal for their to be this long lag in interpreting an MRI??? Or are we being played for a second office visit that better suits his
schedule? Or, some other unfathomable reason??
We are scheduled to go north for the flying portion that will end up taking us to New Orleans for our first cruise ON TUESDAY. Living on a quarter
acre, we have much prep we need to allow for and, well, this it cutting it pretty close. We have insured the trip so that's in the back of our minds
as well.
So, what's up with this MRI delay????

Go to the place that you had the MRI done, and ask the radiologist to read it. Normally the radiologist writes up a report, and maybe that is what
the orthopedist is waiting for. Maybe the radiologist is on vacation. I would high tail it back to the hospital and demand to talk to the
radiologist. If they don't have one, then take the MRI scan and take it to another well-recommended orthopedist. There seems to be a huge
communication gap between the orthopedist and your wife...why don't you ask him what the delay is? Unless you get proactive and assertive, you
certainly will get lost in the shuffle.

In the states, it took me several days to get the results of my last MRI --- it was a delay in the report being written by the radiologist.
It was the same with a previous MRI and the same with one John had and others I know. I have never seen immediate results. I guess it might
happen in an emergency room situation.

Same here as above....several days last month for me.
Old people are like the old cars, made of some tough stuff. May show a little rust, but good as gold on the inside.

The radiologist is the cork in the process. And orthopedists don't like to be upstaged by radiologists. See if you can get the radiologist to load all
the images on a CD and then copy a 2nd and then on to your hard drive. If you have to transfer treatment to another facility you won't believe how
much time and hassle this will save.

best of luck in getting that MRI read more quickly. I can'timagine why it would take so long and had I been you,I surely would have explained the
urgency.
which you might have done.
and everyone is correct-the MRI is yours to take elsewhere and have read if there is no radiologist or whatever the hangup may be.
