Tecate has a couple of nice motels on Benito Juarez, but they are relatively expensive.
Benito Juarez is the road that goes by the central square in an eastwest direction and the motels would be, from the square, toward TJ.....maybe a mile away.

That's one of the few I mentioned:

There's another across the street, but no pool although they charge like they have one.
I don't know the prices at the Estancia, but I'll bet they're above reasonable.
Tecate's a small town. There isn't too much there and these motels are catering to the Mexican traffic. Americans are usually passing through.

Maybe DavidE will see this thread and give his studied opinion. He used to live in Tecate.

Estancia is a nice place with good parking. About 6 months ago rooms were going for about $50 US. NIce restaurant called El Mesquite, a little pricy but good food.

We stayed here and were very impressed. Comparable to US budget motel. Quiet rooms, no coffee maker.
Restaurant in hotel was topnotch and not pricey for hotel. Good restaurant very close, La Mision.
By staying here on north leg we made it to the border crossing at 9am and were thru in 5 minutes!
