FM2/FM3 to Permanent Resident - How Long?
To All: My paperwork is coming up in about two months, has the process quickened up? Has anyone turned paperwork in the last month in Cabo San Lucas?
Is it still taking months? Thanks Brian

It'll be a couple of months anyway. Even when Mexico speeds things up, it's slow.
I've been waiting since mid December....through the holidays....and I should be done with it any day now.
I quit thinking about it around the beginning of March.

Something unheard of from the Loreto Migra is........going to permanent resident....one has to wait until the FM2 EXPIRES....not before, as in the
past.
And......one can start the permanent process AFTER the expiration date, up to 6 months later.

The way it has been told to me: my current Inmigrante card, during the renewal process, will become residente permanente. And I am able to pay
multiple years on this renewal. So for me I will pay two years and at the end of the two years I will have my five years and will not have to renew
again. Sounds like the process has not gotten any quicker. brian

And you do not want to let your current card expire, if so you are back at ground zero.

I can tell you that the boss in La Paz told me yesterday that the cards are coming 20 working days AFTER you are fingerprinted....so that sounds like
a "yes"....

You should probably look into this further.
I believe that your current Inmigrante card will convert to a Residente Temporal. You can pay for 1 to 4 years at one time. You pay for as many
years, as needed, to get to the required five years. After the five years, your Residente Temporal can be converted to Residente Permanente. At that
time there is an application/review fee of $1,000 MXN and the Permanente fee of $3,815 MXN.
THEN, you are DONE!
Here's my timeline from La Paz:
1. Turned in the Permanente application on 1/18/13.
2. Fingerprinted on 2/25/13.
3. Received my "Permanente" card on 4/1/13.
I'M DONE!!

That is to say, expires for its current year....not the full duration of five years. Sí?
That is how it's been played here since the beginning of this mess.

I had to wait until my fifth year of my FM2 expired. After that, I had 6 months to apply for permanent resident, which I have done. That was the
last week in Feb. I just went in this week to get fingerprinted and sign my card. They said it would be 2 to 3 weeks. I will never have to do this
again......well that is my understanding.
BTW you have to be approved for permanent residence.
This is my experience in San Lucas.

Had nothing changed in the process, you would have been done anyway, Judy. Inmigrado is equal to Residente Permanente.
Congratulations. We will have our Green Cards.....soon.

We are running 10 days behind you, so I am hoping we will get them next Friday, April 12 in LAP.

I can't speak to the annual renewal process.
I had an "Inmigrante" card, I was eligible for "permanente" status, I applied directly for "permanente" and received it in ten weeks. No renewals
involved.
