Meteorite Strike Outside Of La Paz?

My wife just called to say they felt a tremor in La Paz a while ago and its being reported on the Internet that a meteorite might have fallen somewhere east or south of La Paz (news reported at www.vizcainohoy.com) and causing the earth to shake and a loud explosion-like sound to be heard in downtown La Paz. It's being reported that the mysterious object fell at 4:06, crossing the sky from North to South. Authorities are searching the areas around Chametla, Centenario and other outlaying areas, trying to find something of whatever it was.

At 8:12 this evening the Mayor of La Paz, Esthela Ponce Beltran, issued a press release stating that there is no evidence that a meteorite landed just south of La Paz in the area known as San Pedro. Although they are still investigating as to what occurred at around 4:00 pm this afternoon, municipal and state officials have combed the areas where citizens have sworn to see explosions and at this point, nothing has been found.
The mayor asks that everyone remain calm and peaceful and to please not speculate any further on the matter until official reports come out.

FWIW - I felt this and I was in El Centro

Shook the windows on my house. Was wondering what it might have been.

"Please not speculate any further" my @ss!

Has anybody noticed that the mayor's family was seen leaving town at high speed?!?!?

No meteor, it was the impact caused by Javier Batiz being in La Paz. ;D

Interesting. Yesterday afternoon, when the news was fresh, people from San Pedro reported seeing a big dustup in the region over by El Centenario. Initial reports said police were looking in the outskirts of that area and the efforts were supposedly supported by a small plane.

Now, nothing. Just a bunch of speculation. One report in the Colectivo Pericu is an account written by a person who says he was out for a hike on Cerro La Calavera (first hills going to El Coromuel) and says he took some pictures from there and to him, it looked more like three explosions set off by a contruction company and theorized that it could have been a company with government connections which will get off scott free.

Although everyone agrees that something happened yesterday that caused a loud noise to be heard over the region, nobody has been able to explain it, least of all official news/government sources.

My mind wonders to perhaps a plane with a cargo worth keeping quiet about landed/fell where it shouldn't have.

Photos and lots of speculation around La Paz

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B8uWmwGhWkbFREMwZHhXTWs4Unc/...

Ideas ranging from construction without permits (but photos show explosions a huge distance apart so I am skeptical), to meteors (possible), to plane crashes (doubt it).

Who knows but it is providing a subject for speculation around here.

Look the same as dust devils, too bad there is non showing them streaking across the sky, as in Russia...

I have heard nothing further, but at 8:28 this evening here in Redding, Ca we had a mild rolling earthquake that we could feel. Very rare for Redding to have earthquakes. This is only the 2nd one I have felt in 28 years.

No idea, had not heard that, but this morning my wife heard from a friend in Yreka the quake was near Etna, CA quite a way north of us, but still in CA. No further reports that I have seen. The quake was big enough here in Redding that the water in the pool sloshed out a little, and the chandiliers (sp?) were a-swinging!!! Fun, fun!!!!
