Sentri and Global Entry
My wife and i have had Global Entry for years and love it. Mostly we fly into San Jose.
So i ave now driven a few time and looking at the sentri system for driviing.
Reading the inormation online I came accross this
If you are a member of SENTRI or NEXUS and are a candidate for or have received the Extended Global Entry benefit, you will not be ableto apply for
Global Entry membership. The Global Entry program option will be disabledon your Trusted Travelers’Program List
Am i reading that right? If i get sentri i kose my Global entry?
Does anyone out there have both and can tell me this is not what I think it is?
Thanks

Bro in law just had his final sentri interview yesterday and he added global entry to his sentri account.
My sister has had sentri for a few years and was at the interview with him and they added the global entry to her account. She didn't have a separate
appointment but did have her sentri card and passport.
You say "extended" global entry in part of your post, is that different?
You can email this question to them on the goes website. I've emailed them a question and got a fast reply.
Did you use the global entry at LAX? Did it save a lot of time?

That sounds like is would not be a choice for you on the list of programs to apply for since you are already a member.
Let us know when you find out. Thanks.

Their explanation of everything on the website is really confusing. Last year when our Sentri was up for renewal, we got the Global Entry cards
instead. But we also still have the Sentri pass for the car. We are then able to use both. So my guess is that all you really need is to get the
car
registered with Sentri.
(To clarify, we don't have Sentri cards anymore, but the car still has the Sentri sticker.)

We have had SENTRI for several years. A few years back I learned that you could add Global Entry to your SENTRI account by scheduling an appointment
at LAX & going through a mini-SENTRI type interview. Then, they dropped that requirement and now anyone who has SENTRI is automatically in Global
Entry. You can also use the "Pre-Check" lines at certain airports in the US; this means you get a separate line through security, don't have to
remove your shoes, belt or laptop and you're not subject to the liquid restrictions. You can either add your Trusted Traveler number in your airline
frequent flyer profile & it will automatically be included when you buy your ticket or you can just enter it when you buy your ticket. Not all
airlines participate in the program nor do all airports but you can bet that I'm going to use it next time I can.
The Global Entry program is great; has saved me lots of time when flying back to the US from overseas.

Yes, you can access the Global lines at the airport. I used pre-check for the first time this past weekend; it was awesome. The lines at SFO were at
least 30 minutes and we were through in less than 20 seconds. So cool to not remove your shoes, laptop, belt or liquids. I even kept my watch on and
the metal detector didn't beep.
One thing to mention that I posted above which was incorrect. You are still subject to the liquid restrictions (3 oz containers in a 1 quart bag) but
you don't have to remove the liquids separately; you can just leave the 1 quart bag in your carry-on.
I just had a friend apply for Global Entry (not SENTRI); anyone know how long the wait is to get approved?

My husband, who is a commercial airline pilot, uses it frequently when travelling outside the US. We were automatically included in Global Entry
through our Sentri. No problema...

been using Global Entry for several years.
Tip - if you have something to declare, state yes on the question on the kiosk, then you declare verbally to the Officer.

My friends who applied for Global Entry were approved in 2 weeks from the date they submitted their application; their appointment is next week for
their interview. I know SENTRI is longer but thought I'd post this for anyone interested in just Global Entry.

I stopped in the SENTRI office at Otay yesterday to ask the person at the front desk, and what she said was this:
Anyone with a Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI card can use the SENTRI pedestrian lanes. Anyone with a Global Entry, NEXUS or SENTRI card can be a
passenger in the SENTRI car lanes. If they want to drive their own car across, all they have to do is log on to GOES (the website where you applied
for it) and make an appointment for a vehicle inspection, which takes about two months to get a date.
Actually, what she said was, "The only reason Global Entry cards exist in the first place is so Global Entry people can use them in the SENTRI lane.
You don't use Global Entry cards for Global Entry, you use your passport."
She also said they've done away with the vehicle stickers because of people's concerns about their cars being targeted for blind muling. I asked if I
can take my sticker off and she said, "I didn't say that."

Thanks for clearing up some questions I had. Even sounds as though one could remove the SENTRI sticker from one's windshield although I may be reading
too much into her reply. Did you happen to ask about a person with a SENTRI card driving another persons car across in the SENTRI lane that has a
sticker but the owner is not on board?

I didn't ask, no, but my understanding has been that the car is registered independently and this is okay. That's only my sense, though, since I've
never been in that situation.
I did ask specifically if I can take the sticker off and she didn't say yes, so... I'm gonna ask the inspector next time I cross, because it was too
busy for me to chat at Otay Mesa.

you can drive another person's Sentri car
I have driven my sister's car across without her being in the car. The only rule is that the car has been put into the system. No stickers being
issued now.
