2013 Baja Elections will be Decided on July 7

"The upcoming Mexican election is set to determine the new governor of Baja CA, five mayors, and the entire state legislature. There are approximately
2,310,000 eligible voters for this contest in Baja, CA. More than 50 percent of these people are from Tijuana. This election will mark the first time
Rosarito will have a state legislature representing our city, opposed to previously sharing one with Tijuana.
The National Action Party, also known as PAN, has held the office of governor since 1989. This is the first time, during the last 24 years, that the
party is in a race that might be lost to another party due to such a close race. In a hard fought battle, complete with supporters in the streets;
cars moving along waving flags, honking horns, and blaring political messages; as well as billboards covering cars, buses, and other places, the three
candidates have traveled throughout Baja trying to win the vote that might declare them the winner. There have also been numerous debates, public
forums, and individual speeches in an attempt to become the next governor.
Fernando Castro Trenti, the Institutional Revolutionary Party, also known as PRI, is running against PAN candidate Francisco Vega de Lamadrid, and the
Citizens` Movement, known as MC, Felipe Ruanova, who has been pushing hard to win the governor`s race. The PRI presently governs the five
municipalities in Baja: Tijuana, Rosarito, Tecate, Ensenada, and Mexicali. The president of Mexico, Enrique Pena Nieto, is also a member of the PRI.
Current Rosarito Beach Mayor Javier Robles Aguirre, who steps down on December 1, 2013, will hand his office keys to either Enrique Esquivel Haroz,
the PRI candidate, to Silvano Abarca Macklis, the PAN candidate, or to Miguel Moreno, representing the MC party. The candidates for the next mayor of
Rosarito have also fought long and hard in an attempt to win the position.
The three candidates, running for the state legislature, each hope to be the first to represent Rosarito in this position. Laura Torres is
representing the PRI party. She is running against Felipe Mayoral, the PAN candidate, and Cecilia Castro the candidate representing the MC party. This
will be the first election that Rosarito qualifies for its own legislature member in Baja. There will be 25 legislatures elected in Baja. Seventeen of
these offices will be chosen by the voters. The remaining eight will be chosen according to the elected political parties. This is known as
representación plurinominal.
Each polling place is closely monitored. Aside from the individual precinct workers, each voting place has a member, from each political party, that
carefully tracks each vote, to make certain all legal rules and regulations are followed according to the law. This has definitely given the Mexican
voters more confidence, than in the past, that their vote will count for their candidate."
