SOLAR PANELS

I need new solar panels for the Coyote Bay house. Would like to purchase them in San Diego or nearby and bring them down. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to buy them and hints on getting them across the border. Will need three 200 watt panels. Gracias

If you want to compare prices call Chris at Oasis Montana 877-627-4768 or 406-777-4321. Chris is an expert in all things solar or anything needed when located off grid. She has great prices and her customer service is beyond exceptional. I purchased a propane refrigerator from her that was technically out of warranty since I had moved it to Mexico and she personally arranged for me to get a new one at no cost. (Since I felt that she had gone way way out of her way in getting me a new refrigerator at no cost I insisted on paying the shipping from Montana to San Diego.) Tell her "refrigerator Ron" referred you.

I bought ours a couple years ago from SUN electronics. They always have an exceptional price on some blem models. I bought 8-205 watt panels and they have performed flawlessly. I think they were cheaper than anything I could find. By the way, I can't even tell why they are blems, they look perfect..

Declare and pay the tax when you cross. The penalties and risk of vehicle impoundment can be expensive. Note that any value over a $1000 requires you to go thru a licensed broker at the border.

http://www.bluepacificsolar.com/cheap-solar-panels.html

Their warehouse in Sacramento, but they can arrange shipping with SD pickup, call them.

http://www.solarblvd.com/Solar-Panels-&-Systems/c1/index...

Warehouse in Norco (east LA), but again, call and ask about SD pickup. You can pickup anything at big UPS terminals like the one in Chula Vista, they will keep it there for free 2 or 3 days.

http://www.solar-electric.com/solarpanels.html

The warehouse is in AZ, naturally. It doesn't matter - too much - where the warehouse is, shipping will be about the same anywhere in CA.

Pick it up, tell Aduana the truth, pay the tax, and don't laugh when they ask about "VIN number" on panels (they did, no kidding).

PS: forgot one more place:
http://www.sunelec.com/solar-panels-c-5.html?zenid=bde55ae11...

Warehouse is in Phoenix, never dealt or heard of anybody dealing with them, probably because they don't sell retail - almost. Minimum quantity 4 panels.

Oh yeah, and good luck finding a solar store with free shipping. Other items - maybe, but not panels, unless overpriced.

I've heard on another Baja forum that 250 watt panels are being sold for $450 each in San Felipe. A lot of money could be saved by not buying them in SD or anywhere NOB for that matter, Customs and import fee wise that is.
It was being discussed on the Yahoo El Dorado Ranch forum site about 2 days ago.

Current low price for very cheap off-brand (not even a Chinese brand) is around $US 0.65 per watt. Decent Chinese brand like Trina would cost $0.80 per watt or so, and real US, Japanese and European brands - around $0.9 and more. Total cost for 800W would be around $700 for a good brand, and Mex Aduana will charge $100 tax.

250W for 450 pesos? Very unlikely, for a new panel.

Note that they only offer free shipping for Kyocera panels, and only for quantity 20 or more. When I was shopping for panels, I found that most stores didn't ship panels for free (though smaller items they could), and those that offered free S/H, had higher prices.

Yeah. But I thought it was worth noting because the OP's destination is withing twenty miles of their warehouse.
