Returning home from Sacramento, we were going to spend the night in Reno but the smoke was so awful that we decided to go on to Carson City. It is
REALLY awful here, but we think it is a bit better --- still lots of smoke and ash in the air!
Great site, but I did not go far enough to find the fire heard Bridgeport that was a possible threat to Aurora and Bodie --- waiting for the local
news.

Spring Peak Fire
Smoke and ash blew into Carson City around 1PM this afternoon. So thick thet it actually blocked out the sun for a while. Still bad this evening,
Can't see the moon or the stars.
Spring peak fire update:

Thanks for the update on the Bodie. When we drove by the road to Bodie on Tuesday, it was closed. It is good to see that it is now open.
On Tuesday, we were headed toward the coast for some business and decided to take the Sonora Pass as we had not been that way for many years. It is
such a beautiful way to travel. However, approaching Sonora, we had a lot of smoke from one of the fires.
When we drove into Carson City late this afternoon, there still was not sun, but then a bright red ball in the sky appeared that looked like something
from one of the old 1950/60 end of the earth movies. As you said, it is still bad this evening! We like to shop here as do many of the people from
Big Pine/Bishop. And this evening, the Costco workers outside and near the door were wearing masks! It will be interesting to see what we find on
our way home tomorrow.

My son is staying at THE PLAZA HOTEL in Carson City last night and tonight (2 blocks south of the Capitol building) and he has not even mentioned any
"fires"--------all he talked about tonight via text was the great steak he ate a couple of hours ago. Pretty Funny!! He heads back down to Bishop
and Independence tomorrow morning.
Hope he makes it!!!!

He is a volunteer Fireman in Independence, so perhaps he is used to smoke and ash?!?!?!?

This was close to 6pm and taken from the Costco parking lot in Carson City. It was 84 degrees, but we were able to leave the dog in the car because
the sun was not intense enough to heat up the car. Breath easy.

We were in Reno for the V2R race and departed Sunday. Air quality was already bad then. Our only 'clear air' on the return trip was the Battle Mtn -
Wells section. Then as we topped the Salmon Falls River crest and down into the Snake River Plain we began to see evidence of smoke from the three big
fires burning north of us. The Beaver Ck fire (near Hailey-Ketchum) has produced the most smoke.
Then, last evening just as we were catching a break from containment progress on those three fires, lightning started another blaze just east of us
out on the prairie.
...AND the dry months of Sept and Oct still lie ahead.

Ahhh yes, looks like Yosemite Valley during peak-season----------and it smells so good. That smell always reminds me of camping in the National
Parks------a good memory-------love that smell since I was a little kid.
(but that pic DOES look pretty intense, even I admit)
We quite often have similar conditions in Redding, CA this time of year, but so far hasn't happened.
Be careful out there.

Barry,
Smelling a bunch of campfires is one thing, feeling like you are forced to stand on the downwind side of a campfire and breathe the smoke and ash and
knowing there is no escape is another thing.
I hope the valley will receive some relief soon as it really is quite dangerous for many people. We sure were happy to drive out of it!
