TV Streaming
Has anyone tried the new Chromecast device for streaming from computer to their TV? Does the device work in MX? Does any device?

I ordered mine 4 weeks ago and it's being delivered tomorrow! Yay! After I install it and have a little experience, I'll post a report. I've been
thinking for a long time about cutting the Cox cable cord (or should I say handcuff) to cut down on costs, particularly since I don't watch a fraction
of the channels on Cox that I pay for. I've been happy with Netflix streaming and their new self-produced content and most network shows are
available on next-day video.
I don't know why it wouldn't work in Mexico with a high speed line, but I'm not quite there yet.
Experience enables you to recognize a mistake every time you repeat it.

I get netflix and other movie channels with just that lil ol skinny wire from the laptop to the TV...works just fine...BUT the Gringo way is to make
it as expensive and complicated as possible....Do not worry grasshopper, I understand...

Many rooms and TV sets maybe... So he 's watching TV here and there at the same time... No, wait, one person can't be in two rooms at the same time
 ... Well, we should buy gadgets to support Chinese manufacturing, they need it

We have used "slingbox" for several years and it seems to work well...
Several folks we know are doing the same thing... And for Chuckies benefit, it only takes one little wire from the computer to the tv.
But on the north of the border side, you need cable or satellite and high speed internet... which some have or someone in the family has...
It does allow you to pickup the local home programming, news, sports, etc. real time... costs no more in Mexico but you do have the expense up north.
We like it.. Would surmise this can get picked apart by some also...
you just gotta do what you gotta do.... or are happy with...

My HDMI wire cost me nothing, the installer of cable TV box NOB gave me the wire ... They had a promotion - internet TV added for free when you get a
broadband internet from them. When promotion expires, I'll say good buy to their TV package, and will keep the $5 wire
With a good aerial antenna there is no need to pay for cra.py basic cable package, you'll get enough local channels and the rest will come from
internet. In Baja though, free aerial channels are poor, and it's not in Ingles so might be a problem for some.

I understand there is a bill in Congress to make the cable/satellite channels "un-bundle" their packages and let us pick and choose what channels we
want to watch. That would be refreshing. Somehow they will just raise their rates to make it up, I'm sure.

I thought that Chromecast was just a wireless interface between your computer and your TV. It will work anywhere, but what you can stream to your
computer is dependent on your internet connection, also, many channels are not available in Mexico without a proxy server.

I love my Slingbox too. (one-time cost about
$150) Control my DVR NOB from my living roon in La Paz. Just added a WD Live TV box (another one-time cost about $100) and now don't tie up my
laptop.

Yes. Does the same job as HDMI wire, or, for older computers - a
monitor cable with 3.5mm audio plug
The difference is (beside the price) - with a wire you can play any web content or static files from your PC, while this Google wireless device is
limited to what Google Chrome can handle. And of course, it requires you to use Google Chrome browser.

Chuckie's benefits are more than you think because with a lil wire to laptop and
no desire to watch local NOB news and weather while being SOB (which desire I don't find unnatural), - he needs no slingbox. Only a lil wire.

Not yet, but my Senator, John McCain is pushing for such a bill.
Stay Tuned, but bottom line is this, even if they make cable companies make these changes, they will simply raise the pricing on the individual
channels so high, that everyone will buy the packages.
It reminds me of when CBand satellite services were piece meal. Eventually when DishNetwork came out they did the same thing for a while, but then
had to compete with DirecTV and went to packages.
