sending money
I met a family in Mulege earlier in the year that needs some help. what is the best way to send them some money.
If you\'re not living on the EDGE... You\'re taking up too much room! Its never too late for a darkside.

It may be worthwhile to add enough information to a reply to make the reply universally useful. Such as, where is the closest Western Union to receive
money at Mulege?

Only one western union in mulege... on the right as you come up the hill from Comex paint store...
also you need to send in their exact name as it appears on some kind of ID they carry... and they will also need the transaction number to allow them
to get the money..
anyway that has been our experience..
There are folks headed south in a couple of weeks from your area.. one from Woodland Ca that might take it for you... Trustworthy. she is the
treasurer for our park in Mulege.. we are headed down in about 3 weeks but from Colorado and my wife volunteers at the rotary clinic and the
Rotarianas (ladies Rotary) group... and we would be glad to help also.. just a thought...
You would have to be comfy with these scenarios....
Many, many of the local families need help...

Will preface by saying don't know locations for receipt in Mulege but ....
MoneyGram is fantastic for sending from USA to MX .. There are so many locations to send from and receive at .. www.MoneyGram.com
Most important for the recipient is that what you put on sending document for recipient name must match their ID that they present along with the
Referencia#
Reasonable in cost .. up to $899 USD does not require senders ID .. over that amount sender must provide ID which is input into system ... usually
costs USD $8 but may vary from time to time .. has been as low as USD $3 and as high as USD $10 per time.

Don't know of the bank situation in Mulege but I've sent money all over Mex and Central America through the USPS...there in minutes at the designated
bank. The USPS can tell you which bank they deal with and in most cases I've found it to be more than one in any community. Cost $11 now to send and
the rate of exchange has always been good and printed on the receipt.
Also I once sent it to the wrong place and they had it back while I stood at the counter after discovering the mistake from the day before, then sent
it off again for me instantly.

in this case...I still say western union...
most people here don't have a bank account...yet
so the post office isn't a good option
the western union office is by the divers place on the way out of town
and everyone here knows where it is
in fact...the people working in the office probably know the receivers by name
...the town is only 3000 big
it's an easy option and safe

I have been sending myself money to a telefono/ telegrafos office from wells fargo. Costs about $4.00 us. Probably the same as western union, only the
fees will be different. The info. about the name and I.D. is right on. They wanted a copy of my passport the first time.

Except those that don't. Much of the information posted on these forums is used by third parties. Someone in the USA sending money to a visitor in
Mulege for example for emergency car repairs. They drive into town and then have to stop and ask someone where the Western Union office is. Of course
everyone speaks English so this should be a snap...

Ask them how you can help them.
If they reply, "We need money," ask them how you can get it to them.
There is a Bancomer in Mulege.
There is a Western Union in Mulege.
If these people are living in Mulege they know where both places are.

Most people in Mex or Central Am don't have a bank account as it is! If they had one then I'm probably not helping them out as the people I send money
to are looking for something just to eat.
Been sending money through the USPS for 10 years every month to a family we met in the jungle of Guatemala living in a lean-to. NEVER had a bank
account and although better off due to our union of families...still don't have one.
Always got the money (taxi ride to nearest town) and always got it in total with best exchange rate and exactly as documented on my receipt. Once in
the system with the USPS the transaction on my side takes seconds at the counter of the USPS. I also send money this way to multiple southern
countries and have never had a problem.
My experience with Western Union has been mixed and through US banks is expensive and slow response when I did have a problem.
I'm not sayin' the USPS is the best at this, only an opinion of how it worked for me (although for what they do I think their very good...mailed mucho
mail from around the world and usually beat it home)
Bob and Susan...you don't need a bank account to get money from the USPS at a bank anywhere in the world.

we have sent money to western union in mulege dozens of times over the years...easy peasy!...and EVERYONE knows where it is because that's where
residents pay their power bill everymonth....and once we tried doing a wire transfer through the bank there and it took 3 WEEKS!!!....so yeah, use
western union.
dyslexia is never having to say you\'re yrros.

How do the Mexican workers in the US (legal and otherwise) send their remittances (22.7 billion dollars last year) to Mexico? They would be the people
to ask.

As I said, ask the people you want to help where to send the money-- or is that just too simple?

Here I am, thanks for all the suggestions offered. I emailed the family, was lucky they gave me their address to me back in march, they knew where the
western union office was, so I sent it to them with tracking number. Have got to say I received a most heartfelt than you reply, that his family was
so grateful and thankful. The father during the tourist season brings vegetables and scallops to campers along the beaches. So during the off season
they somehow try and get by.

If you have to send cash then western union, BUT for sending money with just bank accounts.. I found this company called dwolla. www.dwolla.com
Each bank to bank transaction is only 25 cents per transaction and if it's under $10 it's free. If it's under $1000, the person sending the money can
login as guest without an account to send the money, if it is over $1000 then they need to sign in as a member. Sometimes to get around this I have
them split it up as multiple transactions.
