was very nice.
Thanks Woody, Carlos was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of this post. He is THE MAN and has been for forty five years. Here is
a little time capsule of the most treasured musical memories of my life. Two weeks or so before Woodstock, there was a three day festival at the old
racetrack in Atlantic City, NJ that had most of the Woodstock performers and sadly wasn't filmed and saved for posterity. There was a revolving stage
so when one group was playing, the next could be setting up. When the previous group had left, there was a beginning of of some barely detectable
jungle drums and congas that over the next 15 minutes gradually grew and grew in intensity until the stage swung around and Carlos ripped into Soul
Sacrifice and just tore the lid off! It still gives me shivers to bring it up every time. Joplin was there, among many others, but Carlos stands out
above all others for his soulness, then and ever since. That he still maintains that level is exemplary considering all those that succumbed to other
temptations along the long road. Thanks for appreciating the unique talents to come along in this or any other age. There was a documentary that
showed in the last few years about the performers then and now at Woodstock. One of the coolest parts was interviewing Carlos's young drummer Michael
who when watching him at Woodstock you had to wonder if he survived those times. I believe he was about 17 years old at the time and yes he has
survived and prospered. Anyway this my blast from the past of an iconic moment in musical history. Thanks Woody for appreciating on the true talents
to come along. If you are ever in north county SD I have one of my surf hats waiting for you. Thanks for all the entertaining contributions here over
the three years or so since I found this site to which I am addicted to daily to get my Baja fix.
my son, while attending central washington u, had the pleasure of getting the job of "back stage security" at the gorge, ampitheatre in
washington....bonnie raite, stones, moody blues, etc....he at one point, enjoyed a coupla brews with carlos backstage and fetched and shared a
sandwich with john fogarty......pretty cool for a kid just breaking into blues guitar....and he plays us those blues every week these days!....makes
me feel like a fool on the harp but i can't stop!!...macy, save me!!!
