MAG BAY SLAM - September 24

Fall is prime time on the Ridge outside Mag Bay for wahoo, striped marlin, yellowfin tuna and dorado. Usually, from early September until the water cools sometime around the first of the year small boat fisherman willing to make the long trip from Lopez Mateos or San Carlos will be rewarded with one or more. Yesterday, after two weeks grounded by the weather, I launched out of Lopez Mateos and by 10:00 had boated one of all four of the coveted species. I arrived at the high spot early hoping for wahoo, but the first fish to the boat were yellowfin and a marlin. When I headed in around noon the final tally was one marlin, two yellowfin (footballs) two dorado, and three wahoo. There was bait aplenty, including pelagic red crabs, and all the fish were caught within half a mile of the first stop.
There were no other boats fishing the area except one panga with four clients aboard that arrived as I was leaving.
The SST in the area has cooled three or four degrees since the first of the month.

Here are some pics (not great because of the bump):

Don't know why the photos wouldn't attach. Here's a link to the report on Bloodydecks:

Nice Bill! One of these days I'm gonna make that trip. Al's son Jeff has told me about the Mag Bay trips you guys do, and I hope to make it down there with Jeff sometime. Thanks for the report and the pics!

You should do it. Al has a nice fish camp in Lopez Mateo.
Here's a pic of him on $ea Note on his first trip out of Lopez a few years ago with Sergio Garcia at the helm making his first pass over Thetis Bank. A few minutes later they hooked a wahoo that weighed over 70#.
The hoo was hooked, and so was Al......

You've inserted links to the picasso pages that contain the images. You need to insert links to the images themselves. The link should end with ".jpg". I'm including one of your images below.

Congratulations Bill,

I'm jealous and thanks for the update on Banks. I'm heading your way Oct 11-18 at my college buddy's place Ranch Leonero for 6 days of hola hola for fish. Then my #1 spot I have not fished on my Bucket List, Mag Bay. We will be fishing inside the bay in another buddy's 18' bayrunner. After a week at John's place on the East Cape, I'll be looking for snapper and my Holly Grail fish, a snook inside the bay. Snook were a real special fish to catch as I was growing up in the mangroves of Fort Myers Beach, FL. He's in San Carlos and we will fish there a few days then off to Lopez Matos for 2-3 days. I'll looking for a fish camp property (rent) to store my trailerable Cabo216 boat at.

I hope to buddy boat out there with you someday. This trip is mainly to get my feet wet and learn the area. Bajacalifornia is helping with my arrangements in Matos.

Joe......Thanks. I thought I had it down, but must have done something wrong.

Lobsterman......You will be in good hands with Jeff in Lopez Mateos. It sounds like you will be there in late October. I'll be fishing outside then whenever the wind is down, so our paths may well cross. I'd be happy to buddy boat with you some time.
