Jeep JK saves the day (for stranded Subaru driver)
Stuck with nowhere to go...(but up).
Better off in a Jeep.

There are web pages out there that have reported the highway south of San Felipe has been finished (to Hwy. 1)... years ago! People assume 'highway'
means paved road, perhaps?

The Subaru Outback has an terrific full time 4X4 drive train. Almost as good a Ken's Jeep and my FJ Cruiser...........but pulling a trailer was
idiotic!

Sadly, Subaru doesn't have (anymore) a low range... and that stopped me from buying a 4th Subaru... plus I needed a truck now. For a few years, Subaru
had 4WD (instead of AWD) and they tried to answer the need for a high mileage, off road vehicle... and besides the wagon, introduced the BRAT
(Bi-drive, Recreational, All-terrain, Transporter), and added 4WD to all models.
In the mid 80's they added a two speed transfer case (low range) and that was a big help with the small engine of the time. I sure got my 1.6 liter,
13" tire, single speed transfer case (1977 and 1980) wagons to a lot of seriously tough places, however! In 1987, my third Subaru had low range (and a
1.8 liter engine).
When I went looking at the Subarus again in the late 90's the went to All Wheel Drive (unequal power division) from 4 Wheel Drive (equal power
division) and dropped the low range. They found a bigger market for bad weather drivers than off road drivers. Hello Toyota!

Almost as good? I'm perfectly happy with my RocTrac 4:1 Transfer Case, full-time limited slip, and air locking differentials.

Just a hunch, but I will bet a Subaru will spend far less time broken down or needing repairs... (I say this because I have owned both makes, Jeep and
Subaru). Naturally, the Subaru isn't a rock crawler/ off roader (anymore).
