Photos taken in (mostly) BCS at the 2012 Baja 1000

I work as a chase/pit guy for COPS Racing, and for last year's Mil, I worked between Loreto and La Paz, assisting in prerunning chores as well as my "regular" race day duties. Here's a clump of photos taken before the race, during the dace, and post race. After 10 days in Baja, I logged 3200 miles, sitting in a moving truck for 62 hours (if you're doing the math, I averaged 51.82 mph).

This year's 1000 will be my fourth with COPS.

A fan of COPS Racing at a restaurant near Guerro Negro.

San Ignacio

Sunset near the San Ignacio Lagoon

Killer tacos in San Ignacio square

The Mission in San Ignacio

Prerunning a section of the course between San Ignacio and Loreto (via San Juanico). Here's a couple minute movie of the prerun.

Gassing the prerunners near Santa Rita

Night prerunning near Punta Conejo

Prerunning on the road which runs between La Purisima and north of Loreto. It was heavily damaged due to the hurricane.

Hurricane Paul hit Loreto a couple weeks before we arrived, washing lots of driftwood onto the beach. As a bonus, everything around Loreto was lush and green. And buggy.

The Loreto Mission.

Of course, Bahia Concepcion.

Fresh dorado tacos at Buenaventura.

The Buenaventura dog fixated on pool balls.

Rancho Coyote

Santispoc palapa

Race day at the BFGoodrich pits near La Purisima. My day started at 1 a.m.

Awaiting the arrival of the COPS Trophy Truck.

Fueling the Trophy Truck at the BFG pits. Here's a POV movie of the fueling.

Ten miles from the highway, and 100 miles north of La Paz, a spectator's shoes.

Returning to Loreto.

Taking another break from Highway 1, we drove down a wash to a remote beach at Ligui, right about here.

The greenness of the desert around Loreto made it look Kauai-like.

One of the half-dozen Federal checkpoints along Highway 1 in Baja. This one is located just north of San Ignacio.

Drifting onto the non-existent shoulder on Highway 1 can be problematic.

Great pictures --- thanks. San Ignacio is one of my favorite places, and your pictures do it justice. And I LOVE the dog and the pool table, and the shoes! I don't know how anyone walks in those shoes anywhere!

And your landscapes sure make us look forward to our next trip south!
