Private Rental Vehicle / Loaner?? Oct 29 - Nov 14
I suppose it would have been better to post THIS REQUEST on this forum instead of at Q&A.

Sounds like you need to buy/build your own baja vehicle for your 2000 mile off road trip. There are tons of options on craigslist for older 4x4 or an
old mini truck datsun or toyota cheap and you can sell it or keep it when your done. Someone might even give you their old car.

Hmmmm. Interesting idea. Had not thought of that option. But now I'm in the 11th hour. I guess I'll do the rental thing. And consider your idea for a
future trip. Thanks Gnukid!

What are you going to do if the loaner car breaks? just leave it there for the owner to come pick up? Are you going to look for replacement
transmission or motor and replace it and get on your way which is not uncommon? Will you pay for repairs?
I think the idea sounds good but there is likely a good reason people don't loan/borrow cars for a 2000 miles off road trip to baja.
A true rental will cost 30-70/day plus fuel let's say $50/day is fair x 14 days is $700 plus estimated $600 in fuel. So you are already in there for
$1300 minimum pus the potential repair issues est $500 or total loss due to accident, it's less to get your own car with your own title and be on your
way and know what you got. If you buy a good running baja car you can sell it for a profit when you're done.
I have bought multiple old cars for a few hundred each and drove them down, and continued to customize and fix them-its really fun to have an old car
thats easy to work on like a ford from the 80-90s. I would go to craigslist and look at the options-they also have ads for personal rentals.

I wish I'd started tackling this dilemma earlier. When I'd heard about "car rentals to Mexico" my mind went "okay" the old days are over. But then so
many nuances & hurdles. Ugh. My own fault for waiting so long to explore these options. So I'm biting the bullet this evening and reserving a car
this evening.
