Speaking Two Languages May Delay Dementia Symptoms
WEDNESDAY, Nov. 6 (HealthDay News) -- Speaking two languages may help delay the damage of dementia, a new study suggests.
Researchers found that people who were bilingual did not show the signs of three types of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, for more than four
years longer than those who spoke only one language.
The report was published online Nov. 6 in the journal Neurology.
"Bilingualism can be seen as a successful brain training, contributing to cognitive reserve, which can help delay dementia," said study co-author Dr.
Thomas Bak, a lecturer at the Center for Cognitive Aging and Cognitive Epidemiology at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

While I aspire to become much more fluent in espanol, in the mean time I think that FreeCell is an excellent way to keep sludge from forming.

did you hear the latest ? If you can smell peanut butter thru your left nostril, you are NOT a likely candidate for dementia. Weirdest thing but I
swear it was on the news recently.
That being said: yours truly speaks fluent Portuguese, Spanish and English. used to be fluent in French, Russian and understands Polish (still can't
speak worth a darn).
But I still do those bizarre activities recommended to avoid dementia: walk sideways or backwards, order your mornings differently than normal.... it
can't hurt is my thought on that one!

good idea Blanca.....switching up bloody mary's and tecate once in awhile to put off dementia is a capital plan.
Learning a new language is an excellent way to keep the ole neurons firing! I find my French is lacking now that I speak Spanish but understand it
fine.

Why, most certainly !
As you likely have the basics as you speak Amerikan....that form of pidgin English forms a good base from which to speak "the Queen's English" as it
was intended ...

Do you speak two or more languages?
Yes. I can teach you to say "My hovercraft is full of eels." in Dakotan, which is almost Canadian.
A language fable.
A mouse is in his mouse hole and he wants to go out to get something to eat, but he's afraid there might be a big cat outside, so he puts his ear by
the opening and all he hears is "Bow Wow" so he thinks, "Well, there can't be a cat out there because there's a big old dog", so he goes out of his
mouse hole and is promptly caught and eaten by a cat, who licks his lips and says "It's good to be bilingual !!"
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

Here is the actual translation....
"Lyechunkyinyanka cha kinyan mithawa kin hoka ozula"
Now...if you can pronounce that with a Canuck accent you deserve a prize.
