Lithium Ion Battery for my CanAm Outlander 800?
Has anyone converted to the newer Lithium Ion for their ATV?
I need to replace my factory battery and it sounds like I need to checkout the LithIon before I sink money into a lead acid or gel battery.

The benefits are light weight and the ability to not self discharge or be ruined by an extended discharge. On an ATV, weight is not really a factor,
if the machine sits for long periods without use, there may be some benefit, but if you use it on a regular basis, I would say it's probably not worth
the extra expense.

Yes, it sits not started more than it runs. That is one of the reasons I thought I should check it out.

Or
you can just buy a cheap trickle charger and keep it plugged in when stored.

I have a lithium battery in a dirt bike....good for general use for past 2 years....a bit of a trickle charge over 4 months of non-use during winter.
What I have learned about them is they provide a good blast of juice for starting, but they tend to rate lower re: "amp hours" (longevity of charge
over time if used as power source w/out alternator charging it).
Not so good apparently in real cold conditions.
If you want a good battery, also look into Odyssey....pricey but good.

sitting in my garage in San Felipe, the heat has taken it's toll on my standard batteries, even with a battery tender connected. I am hoping that the
LithIon will hold up better in the heat.

try one of these. mine hasn't let me down and i only start the tundra every 6 weeks or more between baja trips. i let the red top drain once, had it
recharged and this baby hasn't let me down since.

You could also remove the battery, take it home, and store it in a cool place.

Can you give some details on the brand you bought, where you bought it and in what conditions is your battery stored in(i.e., you use your atv daily
or once every month or so?)

we bought the Shorai from Rocky Mountain. Ballistic is another brand supposed to be good.
Is used on our KTM Race quad which is idle between races. We do not do anything special to the battery while garaged. Low maintenance, long
longevity and low weight.
