I haven't driven down the AV road recently but friends there report lots of road work being done on the first stretch including grading and I believe paving. Most of the way to AV is still slow going however.

Was by the turn off on hwy 1 Nov. 23rd and the road crews were busy working on it. Paving had not started yet at that time.

If you get into Agua Verde would you mind checking the status of the road up and out to CD Constitucion. We did a trip last April and it was damaged from the rains going down the mtn to AV. Probably within 2 or 3 miles of the wash at the bottom. Below is a Google Earth shot with GPS coordinates. I also marked a really cool place to camp if that is in your plans.

The access rd at the wash to the Rd up the mtn is maybe 1.5 miles.

T dub,
Having never been to AV, I just want to be clear what you are asking.. Is there an alt route out of AV to the south? Is that what you are interested in? Or is the 'main' road what what you are interested in? Would be glad to check that out if we get out there.. Depends on swell on the PAC side..

Will check the campspot, thanks!

Until Tom gets back to you... Yes! See on TW's satellite map the road going off the bottom of the map? The main road in is the one that goes off to the left side of the map.

Hey Tom, welcome back. La Bocana never has big waves, but if you want to come over, you have a place to stay. I am here now, Meg is coming back on the bus 12/20 or so. We head north 1/5, or so. Mike

Yes there is. It's a dirt road that goes to CD Constitucion and connects to the road to Timbabichi. You can probably get a better picture of it by looking at the maps on my trip report called Fearsome Foursome do Baja Sur in April this year. http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=66863

Here is another Google Earth picture of the road out of the wash. The house is just to the west of the road up.

The camp site is accessed off the main road at a couple of places. There are shade trees there and it's right at the waters edge. Also there is an old gazebo looking structure falling apart. In warmer weather the water is not deep and good place to swim especially kids. Clear too.

The road up is accessed by turning off the main road at the coordinates shown at the wash. The road is in and out of the wash. At the bottom of the mtn and to the west of the road up is a house or rancho. I don't remember seeing it while in the wash at the time we went up but I do remember seeing it as we were going up.

On the trip we made in April we were coming down the mtn and at some point the road was getting bad and two of the men with me walked down and found car size holes in the road so no way a vehicle was getting thru. We turned around and went back to CD Constitucion.

Haven't seen you around the hood for a while? Lucky you as I know where you've been hanging out hehe.. Actually heading north throug your neck of the woods is an option for us on this trip.. Never know! Really appreciate the offer...Always wanted to drive through abreojos and north out to tortugas..

TW, will do my best to check on this route, including asking my moto buddies in San Jaunico.. I'm usually a big blabber mouth wi any locals I see, so we'll see what that yields around AV..
Thanks for the heads up on the camping.. I would imagine that between Christmas and new years ther will be a few people around.. We'll see hopefully!

Tom., I'm here, Meg will be here. It's a small town, we are easy to find. It's lobster season, don't miss it. The Blackman is here too, if you want to fish. I'm always ready to go.
