Mail delivery services - question
I have read through the boards and found mail service advise on who and what to use in the states....but, where do you have it sent to. Do you need a
po box in Baja or service to hold mail.
question is for Mulege, Lorretto and East Cape areas as I have not decided where I want to settle.

I can only comment for Mulegé.
We now have road names and house numbers and the postman delivers to our post box on the gate.
There are still PO boxes available if required.

moving and mail service
As I prepare myself for a move to Baja at first part time and with in a few years, full time I am researching the finer points of living south of the
border.
I was under the impression from reading these forum boards that the Mexican mail service is less than desirable.
If I have, let's say, a mail service in South Dakota shouldn't I get a service in, say Mulege to receive and hold my mail while I am away traveling
just for the security sakes alone. Package delivery also may play a part. Objects to big for a home mailbox.
I am totally open to all ideas. I have been on the sidelines of Nomads for years and now "outing" myself today and joining in on the fun. I plan on
purchasing property this year and moving as soon as all my ducks are lined up to make the next phase of my life possible.

For Mulege...Stop by the post office and ask Mario or whoever is there. He can put you on a p.o. box list and tell you about a general delivery
possibility. I've had a p.o. box there for a long, long time, but before that I would have it sent from the US to me c/o general delivery, Mulege,
BCS, Mexico.
Also had it sent to me c/o the Serinadad Hotel and picked up my mail in the wicker basket next to the office window. That was an honor system that
actually worked back then...sorry, can't speak for that method today.

I have used a P/O Box (C/P caja postal) for many years, and I go and pick up my mail at the post office.

Mexican mail service USED TO BE SLOW before internet... the size of the postal offices (starting with Muleje) are in direct proportion to the
service... as in reduced about 90%, and the cost of parcel post has increased equally.
There still is no 'Fed Ex' or 'Brown Trucks' here, so if it ain't electronic, it ain't happening (can't speak for large Ciudades like Ensenada or Los
Cabos). Then again, those places aren't 'Mexicano' in their own right any more. Kinda like placing a phone call to home years ago, when they'd put
you in a phone booth and dial your # for you and charge you by the minute... some things have definitely changed here, some for better, some for
worse, but all for... whatever. Want to buy off amazon or ebay? S . O . L . Want all the emenities of home? Either pick south cape, or stay home.
Otherwise, still 3rd world country.
I'm half-way down, internet is still dial-up, and mejor de nada, and only $30 u.s. a month, but that's what i love, the need... or the order... to
SLOW DOWN. I have medication issues with VA i'd give my right (fill in the blank) to be able to have sent here, but ain't gonna happen, so i have to
deal my life around it, rather than vice-versa. Everything's possible here, you just have to figger out the method.

I have a house in La Paz; never received any mail for the last 6 years.
I have never noticed the existence of any postal service. Not sure, but I do not believe there is any regular mail delivery by a any postal service
to homes in my neighborhood. I mean, when so many residential addresses are designated by "S/N" meaning "sin numero" meaning "a numerical street
address number does not exist" how can there be any mail delivery?
I get my electrical bill and water bill in my mailbox, but I believe that those bills are delivered by personnel of the utility companies themselves.
I understand that post offices exist, but I have never seen one. And, what good does a post office do if they don't deliver regular mail and a system
that doesn't make sure that all residences are assigned a postal numeric address. I don't know, but I suppose mail may be delivered to businesses
that do have numeric addresses.
I admit it, I am completely in the dark on this one.

This is what I am getting at and your posts are helping. So, in Mulege for example: what services have you found that work best for simple
letters/bills to packages.
