Notary question

We need to have some (California) legal docs acknowledged, and would rather not travel NOB to do it.

I seem to recall the consulate in Cabo San Lucas doing that for us in 2000, but memory fades...

Has anyone had documents notarized either there or in La Paz?

Got to go to the Consulate in Cabo - now in Palmeria Center in San Jose -

$50 USD.

Only legal way to do it.

Have to call them and make an appointment.

Last time I did this, I took the notarized documents to a FedX store in San Jose to send NOB.
They told me:.."you have to take the docs to the airport and get MX customs to sign off on them before we can send them out"
I retorted....they are ONLY documents.

We quibbled a bit back and forth about it.

So I walked out and found another Mail it or a Post it or Mailbox ect. kind of place.
Bingo....."no problem sir, we will take care of any custom requirements for you and do not charge you extra"

Documents arrived to the recipient NOB within a couple days.

US Consulate charges $50 US for each stamp. I had 2 signature pages and paid $100 bucks. It was actually more than that, I only had pesos and they wanted 1300 when the exchange rate was 12 to 1. Bring dollars if you have them.

I have had to send documents north a few times. It always seems that they need to go right away so I have taken them myself to customs for sealing. Once you know the drill it is easy, stop at the DHL office and get a mailing envelope, drive up the road a couple of miles to the Cabo airport (the one in town, not SJD). Take the envelope in to the customs office, they will look at it and seal it with official tape. Go back to DHL and drop it off, only takes about 30 minutes once you know the drill. Doing it this way I know for sure that it will be going out that day.

Using a mail box service is a great idea especially if the price is right.

But whether the receiving end will accept a Notario is entirely up to them. Our county recorder will only accept a consular notary.

If it's indeed by International Treaty, as Soulpatch states, a county recorder shouldn't have a say in the matter.

Thanks to all who replied. The consulate is indeed across the highway from Palmilla in a new center. Hours are from 9:00 to 1:30, fees $50 U.S. per signature, (but free if it's a federal form).

People there are very helpful. #624-143-3566
