Plaster Jesus

I always try to grab a shot driving south. This statue even has a Wiki page ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_of_the_Sacred_Heart

The San Diego U-T ran an interesting article about how it was built. (pdf link)

http://www.utsandiego.com/uniontrib/20060415/images/focalpoi...

One of these days I'd like to figure out how to hike up there for a closer look.

Jesus is not PLASTERED. The head, chest and arms are made of steel and the lower body of fiberglass.[1]

I've a place just under the "toll booth Jesus". Steep climb, easy to find. Park under the bridge at El Morro, K38.

Phil C on this board has made this morning hike more than most.

Plan food around Teresita's at her restaurant there at K38 while there. GREAT Mexican food.

Can lie in fog certain times of the year.

Careful of the dogs at the top. Just plain mean . . . even with a dog whisperer.

Good luck here, at Nomads.

I'm not a member of any religion per se but I find it refreshing after watching the ACLU try to dismantle anything religious on public property in this country...I mean who cares, leave it be.

Christ of the Sacred Heart Statue, Rosarito

The light on top is an aviation warning light, required by federal law for high-rise structures.

Here is a link to a Wikipedia article about the statue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christ_of_the_Sacred_Heart

What I do know is that the owner of the property donated the land and paid entirely for the building of the statue out of his own pocket as a tribute to his religious beliefs and the good fortune that had come to his family.

He believed that this construction would bring similar blessings to others.

When the statue went up, several news organizations tried to interview him, wanting to know how, why and what it cost.

As far as I know, he refused any direct interviews - the information available has come from others who know the family.

I always refer to it as 'Buddy Jesus', as in the movie Dogma with George Carlin as a bishop
