tecate border

Hi,

Two questions about the Tecate border crossing:

1. What are its opening hours?

2. Where do I get the tourist card over there?

thank you

I don't know the hours, but the office is directly on your right when you are stopped at the red/green light. The bank is in the same building. Be sure to press the buzzer or you might stand around, like this fool, expecting the teller to return to the window! You'll be asked to drive around the block to the right and park facing the street you are already on. There is usually a guy in uniform there to move cones to park you. For this he expects a gratuity. The final street leading back to the offices was extremely tight for my 8' outfit due to all the illegally parked cars a couple weeks ago.

The hours are 6 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
However, I have seen posted here that the INM office may be open at 5 a.m.

For parking to get the visa go down to the 1st light turn right and basically go around the block and back to the INM office on the one way street on the south side of the INM office. There are parking spaces and cones and a guy will remove the cones for you to park. You can tip him when you are leaving. If the spaces are full they may let you park behide the spaces on the street otherwise you'll need to go elsewhere to park.

Some Nomads have said they park on the US side and walk over to get the visa and walk back. There is a store parking lot near the border on the right. I forget the name but it's like TJ Maxwell or something like that. There appears to be little foot traffic so it may not take long.

Buy your insurance from Bajabound (above ad banner) on-line and print it out, no need to stop at the store

Second. They're great to work with... and of course the SENTRI discount doesn't hurt!
