Whale Report from Laguna Ojo de Liebre
the whale action in the lagoon this week has been off the charts!!!! Yesterday's census reported an astounding total of .....drum roll please
Dennis.....2,107 whales!!!! There are 1,241 adults and 866 calves. It is just thick with whales and the calves are becoming more curious and active
now with friendly encounters every day.
I am happy to report that we observed at least one mother with 2 calves meaning that perhaps that calf that got rescued indeed got adopted! That
particular calf came right over to our panga and played with it like it was a brother...bumping and slapping us which was good for an adrenalin
rush....right Santiago & Steve55?
We are just in GN for the night meeting a group, showering and checking emails so photos will have to wait. Our Whale Magic base camp in Palapa #1 is
a hotbed of whale lovers...we have been having so much fun and really enjoying camping at the lagoon...our palapa even has power!!! We are meeting so
many interesting folks camped there....well, that's it for now...it's late and we have an early start tomorrow for more whale lovin!

Nice to hear they're thriving. BTW did I read it here or somewhere else a while back that a Grey Whale had been sighted in the Mediterranean Sea.
Seems that the lack of polar ice in recent years has allowed them easier passage through the Arctic Ocean. That same article pointed out that Grey
Whales had historically large populations in the Atlantic but we killed them all off by the 1700s or so. Be cool to have them repopulate over there
again.

We were down in Ojo de Liebre a week ago. We camped two nights. It was beautiful. Whale watched on Saturday. We had a mama and baby at the boat for
twenty minutes. Unbelievable!!! There were whales everywhere. We lost count of how many mama and baby pairs we saw! Everyone there was very nice. I
highly recommend it!

just checking in from our Whale Magic camp at the lagoon...we had an insanely fantastic week of summer weather, hot and calm...great for swimming in
the lagoon and shmoozing with whales!
just in town getting supplies and checking mail etc and zooming back out to the lagoon....so stop by Palapa #1 if you are around...we also have a
tent and bed set up for those who dont have camping gear but want to stay out at the camp.
Here are some photos of the last few days...great whales, good vibes...awesome dancing and live music.
Meet some of our tribe
