I love those quiet days out on the Cortez when you see the splash first way off on the ocean....then follows the sound. Pure Baja.

It was 94º and flat calm yesterday when these were taken. How often do we see that in the SOC in mid-Feburary?

Superb photos, señor loco!
Osprey lives fairly close to the water down in La Ribera, and he hears them flapping their wings while he sits in his outdoor living room sipping his
favorite beverage.
I don't quite remember exactly what he said, but when there are lots of flappings, it is a signal that it is going to be a strong season for
something.

When it's calm, we can hear them slap when they land.

Super photos... I witnessed them 'flying' off Punta San Francisquito... amazing indeed. I think I have only seen them photographed flying in Ray
Cannon's Sea of Cortez, as far a books go. Thank you!

At certain times of the year they concregate in the hundreds. I was out on the water one day two years ago and there were so many jumping at once it
sounded like automatic weapons fire.

......how much 'air-time' do those fellow's get?
--I can't imagine they flap'nfly for long,,,,,,or we'd see them soaring over the desert!!

Maybe up to about 10' then they slap back down on the water
