Popeye's
Anybody ever eat there? It's a little seafood place a little bit north of San Quintin on the east side of Highway 1. I love this place. Great service
and the clam c-cktails are awesome. I always hit this spot on the way down.

those places worry me. i'd hate to get sick right at the start of a trip, or Neptune help me, on the way home and have to sit in line for hours. all
it takes is one bad clam.....

I've been eating clam c-cktails in "those places" for over 30 years and have never gotten sick. However, my girlfriend did get sick from eating a bad
oyster at Point Loma Seafoods in San Diego about a year ago. I guess it's possible for any place to have a bad item now and then.

Haven't been to Popeye's but El Cliente is one of those shacks and the clams there were awesome.

Went to Popeyes last fall and wasn't that impressed (campuchana c-cktail). El Cliente's smoked clam soup is phenomenal and I will return someday!

DON'T go into Popeye's and pronounce their name wrong. Popeye in Spanish is pronounced Poe-Pay-Yea's!! My daughter pronounced it that way and I told
her she was wrong, then we asked a local and he pronounced it the same correct Mexican version way!! If you are looking for instructions on how to get
there, if you pronounce it the American way, they will just look at you in confusion!!

I'm not sure which one we stop at but it has always been good and we've never been sick. I have to admit I was a bit intimidated at first....
Jill sometimes asks me to stop there for breakfast.....I can't do it that early in the day...

Isn't it quite amazing that some of the stops we frequent in BAJA and love that if we saw them in the good ole USA we would probably zoom right on by
but they probably would not be open with the inspections they have to go through up north...
but dang, we have had some good eats.....

Raw clam c-cktail in San Felipe (not the first time I had enjoyed them) about killed me in 2003, so never again.

I think there is a progression of seafood consumption for most in Mexico. Start with fish tacos, ceviche, c-cktails, clams, oysters on ice and finally
unchilled oysters!!! And, of course, gotta throw in sashimi towards the end. You gotta develop the right bacteria in your stomach to handle the raw
seafood....
