Great pictures, great speck-tater sport and must be very exciting to do yourself if the learning curve was not so brutal.

So...what happens to the guy who lost his board?

Some of those guys (and girls) were getting 50' of air, when they lose the board they just float down, that kite is basically a parachute.

I took a few kite board lessons, had enough trouble with the board, probably would have even more trouble if the board had a big thing sticking out the bottom of it. Probably need to learn one thing before progressing to the next thing:yes::yes:

Laird Hamilton, the BIG wave surfer, has been using a foil like these on his surfboard. Amazing speed.

You gotta love creative minds...and the wind sports seem to attract a lot of them! Yaa-Hoooo as our northern neighbors say.

As we all know, hydrofoils are not exactly a new design. They have been used on engine driven watercraft both large and small, sailboats, human-powered boats (kayaks & canoes), windsurfers, wakeboards, and waterskis.

The first hydrofoil boat dates back to 1906 designed and built by the Italian Inventor, Enrico Forlanini (1948-1930). The foil design was made from the classic "Ladder" type construction which has multiple struts coming down with multiple wings between them. It had a 60 hp engine driving two counter-rotating air props and during testing, the craft reached a top speed of 42.5 mph. Pretty impressive for 1906!

I've used hydrofoils on all my small fishing boat outboards for a long time...I think the first one was called a 'Flying wing'. It got you out of the hole much faster and improved fuel efficiency and ride.

Easy to see how and why these great new foil/kite boards can give you the thrill of your life. Now all I need is a time-machine and I'm good to go.

Thanks for the great photos.
