Casa Hogar, a place for children
Here in Mulege is a place for children who are separated from their parents and extended families. Some are truly orphans; others are displaced from
their families. They can live in a clean, protected and loving home-environment. Currently there are 13 children in residence ranging in age from 5 to
13. They come from various states in Mexico.
The home has several needs, and I'm reaching out to the Nomad community for ideas and help.
Most urgent is the need for an electrician to check the wiring and make it safe for a window air conditioner to be installed.
Another is a request for a donation of some simple wood-working tools for the kids. The copper mine in Sta. Rosalia has given wood to Casa Hogar, but
the kids have no tools to work it.
This summer we hope to keep the kids busy and happy-- and cool. We'll be going to the town beach to do some swimming and playing in the water and
intend to create a fun bi-lingual English-Spanish environment.
Anyone coming through who could donate their electrical skills or some funds to hire someone? It's so hot here in Mulege already and summer's not
quite arrived! With safe electrics and the one small ac installed, the kids could sleep comfortably at night.
Ideas, questions, suggestions, Nomads?

what a great project to be involved in. I really like the idea of teaching them English as it will give these less fortunate children a step up. Let
us know what other things are needed too. Perhaps some people who have special skills can go there and do workshops like mask making, art, drama etc.

I know this place well and have worked with her. She has a big HEART for the kids . Any help in any way is good and she can use all.

baja Steve, did we meet at the check-out at Saul's grocery store a few months ago?
You knew the home administrator, introduced her to everybody in line, and we each contributed a bit to her groceries, right?
She makes big beautiful crepe paper flowers-- the kind you'd buy in a high-end decorator's shop. They're perfect gifts, especially because they have a
story behind them.
She and the kids makes pizza on Saturdays for sale.
They've been given a bunch of quality wood and the older boys would like to craft it into things for sale. Wood working tools are needed.
It's only June but it's so darned hot here in Mulege already. They've been given a small window AC but the house electrics aren't up to snuff. Really
need an electrician to make things right.
Financial contributions would be so welcome. I'm working on the best way to receive donations internationally. Perhaps a Paypal account or Western
Union-- ideas, please.

From my experiences with these type of places, often the children have trouble attending school because of a lack of supplies. And I know some of the
schools are quite particular about what those supplies need to be.
Perhaps, if this is the case, you could make a list of what supplies are needed and if just a few of the snowbirds brought down just one backpack with
supplies, that would be helpful. Of course, when we have taken such things, we spread out the supplies among other belongings. :-)
