Bahia Concepción, Whale Sharks in Nov.

What is the chance of seeing Whale Sharks in November in Bahia Concepción? I know they are heading south and am trying to adjust traveling schedule. How late are they in BoLA?

Thanks,

I can't say about BOLA, but for Conception the best time is early April on... they like to bask in warm, shallow waters with sandy bottoms. In the San Lucas / San Bruno areas they're still around in early fall, but pretty much headed out by November; a few stragglers, but the warmer the water the better. You'd do better late September to early October for good results.

Contact the folks at Buenaventura, 20 miles S of Mulege, they could give you the odds on seeing whale sharks off their porch that time of year.

Sorry, I don't have their email handy, shouldn't be to hard to find.

I have seen them in BoLA as late as Thanksgiving but generally they are heading out and pretty much gone by the end of October.

Also, about Concepcion, they tend to prefer the waters around Posada, Burro and Coyote more than farther down-bay. I camped 15 years or more down by Buenaventura, but late spring i'd get word from the vendors they were in farther north, and we'd boogie the 7 miles up-bay to see them, and hope to heck the wind didn't come up. Got some great pics, vids, and was there the day Scarecrow's (Mike's) little dawg jumped on the back of one while Mike was swimming with it... didn't see the dawg, but heard the story from Scarecrow himself later at Gecko's. Nobody in his boat new how to run his camera, and man, was he peeed!

Thank you everyone and especially for the contact info. Wish we could go earlier or in the spring but this winter is limited.

Thanks again,

I agree with what you said on Whale shark location in the bay, but this spring I did come across 2 separate ones in open water off Buenaventura about 10 minutes apart.

Last summer, sometime, Mike and I were coming in from fishing and there was this beautiful sailboat drifting by the mouth of the river at Mulege. We IMMEDIATLY noticed 3 lovely women, topless, standing at the rail. Four whale sharks, right by the boat...We watched for a while then went to the launch ramp. Mike asked "Did you get any pictures of those women?" NOW that guy has his Caca Contigous (sp)....Alas, just took pictures of the whale sharks..Dang! I love Baja,,
