Hwy 5 south to Hwy 1 Report

Went down hwy 5 from Mexicali to San Felipe on Thursday the 18th. I also went west on hwy 3 to KM190 from the 3/5 jct and checked out the repairs. The repair was excellent. All of 5 to San Felipe is in very good condition.

From San Felipe to Gonzaga Bay is in very good condition with only minor small loose rock on the road edge from Puertecitos south.

The paved road continues south of the GB PEMEX for 2 miles. Road construction continues for another 11 miles with a large concrete bridge over arroyo Santa Maria.

From the end of road construction to Cocos the road has been affected in some areas. It's worse than it has been in years but passable without problems, no major washouts to speak of.

From Cocos to hwy 1 is in bad shape but passable in 2 wheel drive with clearance. The holes on the side of the road bed are bigger and more of them. There are holes in the middle of the road bed too. At the old Grosso ranch is the worst. From the ranch to hwy 1 there are two major washouts within a mile. Again all passable in 2 wheel drive with clearance. About have way from Cocos to hwy 1 is a parked 18 wheeler hauling creosote telephone poles. He can't turn around nor go out to hwy 1 until they get a dozer to clean the road or make a side road at the Grosso place.

Thanks, a lot, TW. Your report helps many people from many camps. All the way down from San Felipe to GB. Some of us have been talking over the phone wondering if there was significant damage in the area you describe. Sure do appreciate your help.

It didn't appear to be affected at all, maybe a little rain, but no damage I could see.

Great reports. Thanks to all of you. Hoping that the last stretch from GB PEMEX to Coco's corner and to HighWay 1 gets finished.

Another friend came in from hwy1 to San Felipe and said they have repaired the road from hwy 1 to Cocos. Good news for sure.
