You see that's the difference, I don't put people into 'groups' or voting blocks. Mexican standards? How demeaning! How about good people standards.
If given a choice between a place like Baja Cactus and others of less 'quality', people (the Mexicans to you) fill up Baja Cactus first. So, if you
want to call that 'gringo standards' rather than just good business practices, then whatever it takes to help a business stay in business or get more
business.

Having stayed at both Caracoles and Cowboy when they first opened, I have a couple of observations. In the case of Caracoles, I have made my
displeasure clear to the on site staff about the fact that it appears the owner Raul has not put a single peso into maintenance. Walls are dirty,
screens are torn and bed frames are broken.
In the case of Cowboy, I have noticed a certain amount of deterioration as well. But it is newer. Give it time.
Maybe a fundamental problem is that given the seasonality of the crowd (whale watchers), there may just be too many hotel rooms in the town to sustain
profitability year round.
Has anyone stayed at the old La Pinta/ Desert Inn just outside of town recently?

1)You are constantly putting people into groups and voting blocks with your incessant right-left/ right-wrong/ capitalist-socialist commentaries;
2) Standards vary from area to area in both the USA and Mexico....heck, even up here in the frozen netherworld of Canada....and that is an
acknowledgement of reality...not inherently a "demeaning" distinction.

I assumed more people would have heard of that expression, but I guess not. It is one we learned when we worked for the Department of Corrections
---- in order to promote one's own advancement, we would refer to whose car or train one was on. It is like who your wagon is hitched to.
The comment was about the hotel --- do yourself a favor DK, don't be so paranoid. Still can't figure out how you twisted it the way you did. It was
a possible answer to your question, and nothing else. It is like Baja Cactus is definitely on your train.
And if you can't understand it yet, well..........
To everyone else, I apologize that the comment set DK off on a political rant. I had no way of knowing he would twist it that way.
I hear good things about Mario's just outside of town.

Cowboy and Caracoles are mentioned because they were the game in town. Neither are great games but a step up somehow. Now Terra Sal is in the
game with their rubber mattresses. I don't think the owner knows better and automated air freshener is probably fine with Mexicans and they even
like it. I gag. I travel with a fan blow the smell out.
Repeat business is an enlightened concept. Not sure these owners think that way. I've never seen Cowboy not full. Think Caracoles will feel
the pinch if there is one.

The last time I stayed in Malarrimo, I did like the room. But the restaurant wasn't *quite* as good as I remembered.

It has been that way for about five years. I have felt the same way about the restaurant. Not as much choice. Not as much food, and waiters who, even
when the place is almost empty will rush you through dinner by bringing you the main course right after they deliver an appetizer or salad.
And a big beef I've had is that a few of the most recent times we have been there, the waiter tells me when he delivers the check that he won't accept
a credit card. I don't know if that is the policy of management, or just the idea of a waiter who wants to go home after the shift with tip cash in
his hands. But, I have always b-tched and had to go over to the jefe who said he will gladly take plastic.

Yes, that happened to me as well. I'm not sure what changed. I used to really look forward to meals there.

Marios's has really good food. But depending on when you are there, it can take forever to get that food. And the ambiance is not five star.

Stayed there last night. Large room with two queen size beds (#120), we removed the plastic mattress shield that was between the sheet and mattress.
Very clammy feeling and uncomfortable. The one big problem with the room that will keep me from returning: the entry is a sliding glass door and
once that is closed there is absolutely no ventilation. No air conditioning which GN rarely needs but it is like being inside a cave or bunker. No
source of outside air except the tiny window high above the shower. We had a fan with us and with the ceiling fan we got enough air movement but no
fresh air source.

Stayed at terra sal the other night. Didn't mind it. Cranked the ceiling fan and left the screen open til night night. New and clean. With good
showers and wifi. And, yes, the towel swanns!!

Stayed here in November with our dog in March in a room assigned for people with dogs. Very large and nicely decorated room. The decor is simple and
modern. There was minimal Internet reception in the room, just enough for e-mail, but pretty good TV. The Banda video channel is very interesting and
there were a few decent movies to watch.
The automatic air conditioner was a bit annoying, but we managed to sleep through the night. I didn't notice that the bedding protectors, but it was
cool the night we stayed. Everything was in good working order. The toilet lid that closed automatically was an intriguing addition.
Our little dog had lots of space to play inside and to walk around the grounds and we could park right outside our room. There were quite a few
Mexican professional people staying there along with tourists.
It is a secure place, but felt a bit cut off from town because of the high concrete walls around the grounds, but there is some nice landscaping
started and could be a nice oasis with the addition of trees. The staff were friendly and our reservation was waiting for us when we arrived.
I did miss staying on the 2nd floor of Cowboy's for the views over the land. There is just something so liberating about catching the breeze and
surveying the rosy crystalline light of dawn and dusk of the salty GN atmosphere.
When the way comes to an end, then change. Having changed, you pass through.

They did not have a second floor until 2014.

Stayed at the Terra Sal twice in the last 2 weeks - rooms were identical but on the second time the room didnt have A/C, even though they charged us
40 Pesos more than the first night.
We didnt make an issue about the lack of A/C as the nights get cold enough there anyway.
We are going to stay there again next week so will see what changes this time...
