Abreojos to San Ignacio, off pavement.

Got a request... and I recall that Mike Younghusband and Don Kay wanted to stay off the pavement for most of the route, a couple years ago... but looks like the lagoon marsh may prevent taking too short a cut...

So the short cut seems to be through San Angel...

Edit, while Mike and Don Kay decided to head up to Hwy. 1, you should be able to moto directly into San Ignacio?

As of last week, the northern edge of San Ignacio lagoon (where you entered the date Jan. 6th) butted up right against the pavement.
There is no way to get around that lagoon on the southern side of the roadway at that point.

Just follow the purple line. The cutoff is sightly N/E of where the water is and Rancho Rodeo. Not much of a shortcut though. Adventure yes. It is the route for the Baja 1000.

Thanks DK !! I did a little research on Google Earth, I back tracked from the Military check point in San Ignacio, there appears to be a dirt road at the check point that leads all the way to Abreojos. Can anyone confirm that?

As Dali Dali said, the lagoon/ marsh/ salt flats comes right to the Abreojos highway, so no direct dirt road to Abreojos without using or crossing the highway.

As Ralph said, the 2014 Baja 1000 is using dirt roads to get to or very near San Ignacio, and the race crosses the Abreojos highway, south of Hwy. 1. That may be the only dirt route for sure to use?
