Firewood INTO Mexico
Anyone ever have an issue bringing firewood INTO Baja? I once got sent back into Mexico because I had leftover firewood I had brought from from San
Diego. When the Mexican officials asked why I was being sent back, they told me I wasn't allowed to bring firewood into Mexico. I sat for 30 minutes
in this parking lot in between Mex and USA before a nice female Mexican guard took pity on me. She told me not to bring firewood into Mexico again and
let me enter. I quickly drive to a car wash and traded the firewood for a good cleaning of the van so that not a twig remained when crossing back.

I recently had 3 bundles of firewood (the kind you get at a 7-11) pass through without a whimper and open to view in the back of a pickup.

or if you work on a construction site get some 4x6 and cut them 18" long. find some hard wood that they use for pallets carrying heavy loads, think
oak. cut 12" pieces and stack a layer under all your crap near the front of the truck. it helps if you have a shell! bring a hatchet and splinter the
4x6 for kindling and drop some oak on for the logs.....

I wouldn't mind buying it there, but I need to use up what I have.

Going into Mexico with store package wood has never been flagged to me. However, any unused wood cannot return to the U.S. .

This wood is from a few trees we cut down last year and is pretty rough. In other words, it doesn't look like store bought wood at all. It's mostly
baseball bat size limbs. Anyone ever get refused entry with this type of wood?

There has been a problem with firewood for years. Why? I don't know, but it will, like everything else, depend on the variables you encounter when
coming through the line.

There may be an agricultural issue with wood of this type. Again...I don't know.
How would the US handle a situation like this?

I think that most states now have a ban on transporting firewood from place to place. By transporting firewood, you could be spreading diseases
and invasive insects that can quickly kill large numbers of trees..
I do what the voices in my tackle box tell me.

True about spreading insects/disease. But, back to the question, has anyone ever been refused entry with firewood? I think the Mex officials were just
giving me a hard time because I got sent back. It was Valentine's day and the USA was cracking down on flowers and so wood must have fallen into that
scenario. They had a big incinerator working next to the lot they sent me to, but the EPA guard said my firewood was too much and they were only
burning flowers.

Pine is not acceptable across into California. But i take a 1/4 pick up load of Elm with us all the time and no problems ever. We always burn it up or
leave it there for the next guy.

Buy a box of DURAFLAMES and stop stressing out about transporting illegal firewood and insects. It's clean, cheap, easy, easy easy.

I'm gonna for go it. Maybe wrap it up in a tarp and put it the van's cabinet. I built a roof rack for the van and used to carry wood in that, nobody
every questioned because it was over the roof. Wish I still had that rack. Gonna roll the dice...

Exactly!
If you won't be near any place that sells local wood, an artificial fire log will give you a fire for your camp... and not break any laws.
